Smitty goes off on CLT on WFNZ

Recommended Posts

He's right. Tepper ain't the one out there dropping balls, or missing blocks, or putting up having comically bad drafts.

He's the one responsible for hiring the people that have kept our scouting department that has been one of the worst at evaluating college talent in the NFL.

He forced the transition to the 3-4 even though we've never fully committed to it and never been able to draft or sign the players to do it.

He's the one that signed used car salesman Fat Fhule that hadn't even won a game against a ranked opponent.

Then he signed a GM that was one of if not the worst GM in the history of the NFL, only to replace him with his assistant.

Frank Reich hired and fired in 9 games. Multiple potential hires for HC turning down interviews.

Changing QBs like underwear.

Personal quest to trade for a sexual predator QB and would have if the contract didnt have to be 100% guaranteed.

Terrible contracts

Rock Hill debacle

2023 trade up to 1 and him and his wife drafting BY

Worst defense in NFL history.

Worst record in major league sports over the time frame of his ownership and the fans need to be patient and understanding of an 8 year and counting rebuild?

There being any fans left is a goddamn miracle.

Seems like there are two main perspectives weighing in.  Watching, and having to play/compete against him.
If you have to play against him Sunday, what does it matter that he did violence on Thursday? Or if he isn’t a suitable role model….

I watched NFL when Don Merideth QB’d the Cowboys. Way before MNF. Dan Reeves I think was a backup. I saw ‘The Heidi Game’ live on my little B&W 13” TV when I was a kid. No kidding. And you know, much more. I can’t say I have really seen anyone like Smitty. I love those other 3 too. There isn’t another Cam, I think there are other maybe Peps - athletic freaks with size and speed. And there have been probably a couple of Lukes or close. Heady super talented and motivated defensive QBs - which Luke was. But I love that guy, He is HOF in my book.
There were guys that were similar to Smitty I thought Andre Rison had some of it but he flamed out. There are others that I maybe am not recalling. But Smitty took stuff to a new level. Like when he came back to BOA as a Raven. He just destroyed people.
Sorry for the long winded drunk post.

Edgy comment.  It's not for everyone but there are plenty of redeeming qualities that keep former player's and their families around.  Depends on what you want in life and what's important to you.  I could give a poo about clubs that bump until daybreak.

I lived in CLT for 18 years. I know it's "nice". But it really isn't as nice as dozens of other cities. But hey, if someone is happy in CLT, more power to them. They found their spot.

    • I agree.  He is solid. Another player I think is underrated and with good reason (I will explain): Monroe Freeling UGA Many have him the fifth-rated OT, but I would put him at 2 or 3.  Reason?  He played the season with an ankle issue and still kicked arse.  Here is a write-up that describes him--the injury, in my view, has him rated lower than if healthy all season. OT Monroe Freeling Georgia | 6'7" | 315 lbs Ht:6'7" Wt:315 lbs Class:JR Age:21 (25-Jul-2004) Monroe Freeling earned Second-Team All-SEC honors from league coaches for his performance during the 2025 season. Starting 12 of 13 games, he was twice named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week after dominant showings against Auburn and Texas, notably grading out at 80 percent with zero pressures allowed against the Longhorns. During the 2025 season, he managed a nagging ankle injury suffered against Kentucky but remained a cornerstone for an offense that ranked first nationally in fourth-down conversions. As a draft prospect, he is recognized for his exceptional reach, mobility in pass protection, and "road-grading" power in the running game. While he has proven to be a reliable starter at left tackle, he also offers significant versatility having started at multiple positions along the line during the 2024 season. Here are some others I like (mostly developmental, but we have at least a year--we hope--at RT)   Your boy: The Panthers were looking at Barber at the SR Bowl practices, I believe.  Good run blocker--needs work in pass pro.  A RT candidate? Shelton would be an ideal swing OT. I really like Bowry.  Footwork is huge for a T, and we do a lot of zone blocking.
    • We could/should re-sign BC and Nijman and draft 2.  There are 5 or 6 expected to go after round 1 that I really like.   Some are a year away, so I would give Moton an apprentice now.
    • I think (April 2025) the Panthers already gave Ickey his 5th year deal for 2026, a $17m fully guaranteed.  This, in my view, eliminates the practicality of signing a free agent, as if any ever make it to free agency anyway.  So we have a year before deciding on Ickey's next deal / future.
