I’m not trying to be an asshole to you I am just frustrated

I will just say that when people make agreements they need to follow through on them.
My understanding of what was done and why it was done with Canales is that we knew we were hiring a guy that wasn’t ready. We agreed that we would give him time to be read to grow into it. I didn’t pick Canales but he had a track record of helping QBs.
I never for a minute believed anyone could help Young be what he can never be.
Ao you hand a green side a clusterfug and expect miracles right away.
That could never work. But with some time and better QB to work with it might. People learn the guy is overwhelmed but not without merit.
Peraonally I got slammed for saying I wasn’t thrilled with his positive and he sounds like a metrosexual beta to me. Not the hard nose ball coach I am used to  I knn no ow he isn’t perfect but at some point we need to stick to a plan

doegivw the typos I am on a tiny phone with big fingers.
too many to fix

My thought is you have to have some vision. Dalton is ancient by NFL standards. His play last year was not good at all outside of 1 game. Bringing him back this year as a backup didnt make sense. He had no upside other than to make Bryce comfortable.

Now if we had brought in a Howell, Winston, or another FA QB that fit Canales' style a little better we could have had 3 things. One, a real backup without the intent to just mail in the season if Bryce got hurt. Two, if Bryce reverted back to his season 1 and 2 opening form, we had another QB on the roster we could insert to potentially develop our offensive players as well as determine if our problem lies with our HC as well. And three, if Bryce didnt work out, we have a vet QB signed that is familiar with the system that can make the transition into next year without leaving us scrambling to draft a QB we may not want because we feel desperate to do so.

Might not seem like much, but a little future planning with some built in contingencies makes sense, especially given where we are right now. But this is Carolina and we dont do poo like that.

Makes perfect sense. Which is why I believe that was off the table for some reason.
To the point I just now thought I wonder if Bryce lobbied Tepper for Andy.

You get Canales working with a QB that can factor in the future, or you tread water another year with Andy who will be retired - he ain’t going anywhere else…

It  doesn’t make sense unless hands were tied. But nothing about Bryce Young ever made any sense.

edit: PS the thought of Bryce lobbying for Andy made me think about his dad lobbying for XL. If dad wanted XL wouldn’t you infer that Bryce wanted XL? Extrapolate that one….

What they should do now is as soon as they pull the plug on Young is to cycle thru the qb's on the roster and limp thru this season. All the while looking for a vet to start next season.

When the season is over determine whether you're in position to draft a possible rookie to build on or you're picking defense.

If it's defense I would keep Canales one more year to see if he pulls it together or is a waste of time.

If it's qb I would seriously consider finding a new coach to pair together as im not confident he's the guy.

Reasonable. It would give fans reason to watch.

Another thing, about the coach situation.
We know we have Canales because no one else of any merit was touching David Tepper and Bryce Young.
That’s a damn double whammy right there. Who could we get now?
Reich was almost surely told he could get his QB but obviously did not. That has to be something that will factor, getting your own QB is all Tepper has to entice a new coach.

Things like that are why I think Tepper is still heavily involved in the major decision making. It's not like this is somr clever 4d chess move. It's basic strategy. Now if Dave forced the issue, then it, and the moves of the past 3 off seasons make a lot more sense.

Seems pretty obvious on a macro scale that he put out the edict of save Bryce at all costs. Whatever it takes you do it. That explains the 2024 draft and FA.
if in fact Bruce and dad lobbied Tepper for XL it goes micro. And makes a lot of sense. I knew or felt strongly that XL was a pick for the roster they had last year as opposed to long term

I always felt that Brooks was a pick for Bryce because of the pass catching aptitude he displayed. And you have to remember he was supposed to be ready by camp. It was not a future pick either.

Good coaches are competitive with crap QBs. Look at Stefanski (who we should hire if he gets canned).   Canales is not. He has to go. Good play caller, but offers nothing else that is head coach material. Bryce Young doesn’t play run defense or special teams.

Er... what?  Stefanski has not been good the last two years, nor has their offense.  Stefanski definitely requires a competent QB (no knock on him here). Flacco was miraculously good in 2023, but since, they're one of the few teams with a worse offense than the Panthers.  Hell, over that period we've put up 100+ more points than they have...

Look beyond the record, the Browns compete despite complete zero's on the offensive side of the ball due to Watson's cap hit and injuries to players. Now, we have just as bad as an owner if not worse, so maybe he wouldn't win any more here, but I think he's a good coach who gets the players ready to play
