Specific changes are necessary

At the quarter point of year two under Canales I think it is obvious that certain changes are necessary:

  • Dave needs to give up play calling.  His scripted plays work out well, he can still contribute those weekly, but he needs to let the OC be the OC.  Canales' job is to be the CEO.  You can't trot out a team that is unprepared on 3 levels, on a consistent basis, and not claim you are fully focused on the "main thing".  As Cam says, "Let the main thing be the main thing"
  • There needs to be a serious conversation between Morgan and Evero.  The lack of pass rush and ILB play are putrid.  There is solid DL play and DB play.  Fix at least one issue via trade or scheme.  My thoughts are that EE is so pissed about the personnel that he is refusing to adapt his system to what we have.  That's a friable offense in my opinion.
  • Bryce is on the clock.  If DC gives up his play calling and the OC can't make BY fit the scheme, we need to bring in competition via the draft or free agency.  Dalton isn't competition.  I wouldn't necessarily go for a high first round pick at QB, but I wouldn't throw out the possibility of a late first round trade up or 2nd round pick on a QB who fits the mold of what we want to do.
  • Evero is gone at the end of the season, if not before.  You need to bring in a hard ass DC.  We need a guy who is all about accountability and will not take poo from anyone.
  • We really need to look at our athletic training staff. This is year three of starting the season with significant injuries.  Last year it was on defense.  This year it is on offense.  I'm not sure if it is a curse or poor preparation. I really think it goes back to training camp, ex.. joint practices with the Texans.

With Dave signed to a six year contract I don't see this being a make it or bust year, but if there is significant regression from last year, year three will make it or break it for him too.

We need to switch back to a 4-3 scheme. Every time we've tried to implement a 3-4 under Tepper it has been a disaster.

4-3 isn't fixing our problem. We have no 4-3 DEs and Scourton and Princely were basically wasted picks if we go back to a 4-3. The problem isn't the alignment, the problem is we don't have NFL caliber LBs and our DC is trash.

Meh keep DC for the year. I don't care about his contract, 2 years of poor performance is enough by NFL standards.

I would say fire Evero but Im not sure his staff has anyone to promote. We have all see their work at every level on that D.

I would be happy with sitting guys like Scott and letting anyone else play. Play the rookie edge guys. Hell play Ransom because Moehrig can't cover a flat ball. Or just play Moehrig as an ILBer. I just don't give AF at this point.

Then we need more linebackers which is our biggest issue. We cant field 2 much less 3.

We don't have good 3-4 personnel either. It's a rebuild either way.

Scourton could probably convert as an OLB. Princely might be able to go to 4-3 DE. Biggest issue would be lack of LBs and no true MLB.

    • Yea, I'm going to throw bullshit the same way you and others throw bullshit daily. You still think I care about folks "picking" on Bryce when I've already clarified that it's because when trying to discuss anything not related to Bryce you and others like you come in with a boner to exclusively talk about Bryce. Hell, look at this exchange. Chandler Zavala posted a 0.0 pass block grade and all you can do is try to make it seem like it's a distraction from Bryce. That's a crazy obsession on your end. Seeking entertainment via purposefully misrepresenting somebody on a message board says quite a bit about how well things are going for you on your end. As I'm so affectionately told: I hope things get better for you.
    • His rookie season bought him forgiveness on my end, but in year three he cannot show regression to that basement-level performance he could barely string together. Yea, things haven't exactly been fair, but very few QBs end up in situations like Mahomes. Hell, even Stroud is struggling this season as the Texans for some reason thought that the best thing to do was detonate their OL. I don't think the team is in a good enough place to drop a rookie QB in. Best case scenario imo, they further build the roster during the offseason and march the team to a top-10 pick behind Bryce in the last year of his deal. If we're picking in the top-10 again, it means Canales isn't the offensive-mind that Tepper thought he was. Grab a reliable vet if there's one available and let the new rookie sit for a year. Last thing I want to do is grab another top QB prospect only to fire the HC after their rookie season. That doesn't exactly go very well for anybody.
    • What league would those teams play in? Because it isn’t the NFL.
