Drake Maye here...but what was I thinking?

Maye was my #2B QB in that class. Daniels was clearly the best(and has been).

But it didn't matter at that point. Bryce was already here and Chicago had our #1 draft pick. Typical Panthers.

I don’t think Fields is as bad as he’s shown. I whole heartedly believe his development was ruined in Chicago. He needs to take that step back and go to a SF or LAR and wait his turn again. He’s so behind the curve and needs some time studying the pace of the NFL behind a good QB (aka not Russell Wilson) and good offensive coach

He is absolutely as bad as he has shown. When you can't read the football field and just hold on to the ball trying to figure it out, it's probably not gonna work out.

I have to admit, I was on the Trey Lance wagon.  While he's obviously not ever going to be a franchise QB1, I'm still curious about him as a bridge QB/QB2.

Lance made some insane throws in college. He has the talent. He lacks the experience and maybe the know how.

People here wanted Weinke to start over Delhomme because he threw for over 400 yards but had 3 interceptions and it took 61 pass attempts.

If there's any hope for Fields, it's that he is playing for a godawful team and we've seen guys like Darnold and Geno do better elsewhere. But he needs to be with a much more competent team. Whether one will take him in...

That Geno Smith turnaround is turning back straight into the ground with his Raiders stint.

It's his third team that he has played terrible for. It's not them....it's him. Tyrod was immediately better, TO's or not.

Not sure what to think of Geno. He is having the same sort of year I was honestly predicting Darnold to have. His performance is truly shocking. Still expect Classic Darnold to show up but that turnaround has been a real surprise.

Lance is slated to be a FA if not re-sign. I know we have Dalton for one more year, but he's already got dead years on his deal, what's one more?  Trey is only 25-years old and is in his 5th season.  If with his original team (49ers) he'd be going into his golden ticket contract, but could be had at a bargain FA deal.  All I'm saying is the dude is sill young, incredibly athletic, prototypical QB size and finally healthy.  Kicking the tires is completely justified in my opinion.  He's not replacing Herbert in LA, so he might opt to hit the open market instead of getting locked up early.

I've mentioned him before.  He has also learned behind Shanny and now Harbaugh who are two solid coaches with QBs.  Also he has had time to sit and get healthy as you pointed it.  If we can get him for a good deal we should be all over it.  Watching Dak from the sidelines probably helped him too if I'm being honest.

Remember, hindsight is always 20/20.

It's very simple to look back and say "we should have drafted this dude instead of that dude."

The team took a HUGE risk on the physical outlier.  Then instead of building and fostering a team around him, they turned it all upside down on him, jerked him around, and basically sabotaged his rookie season.  Year two started off in the pits, and then got better towards the end.

This year has been so up and down.  I'm not sure this is the right place for Bryce.  Honestly, let's see what Dalton does and how different the game looks this weekend.

The biggest problem with young QBs is that it's so hard to figure out if you have the guy or not.  So much is situation dependent.  Look at what's happening to Cam Ward, and how he's getting put through the same Bryce Blender his rookie year.  It seems like teams just don't have the patience to develop QBs anymore.  If you don't hit it off by the time you're in your 2nd year, you're done it seems.

I mean we did literally build an entire offense specifically around him and crafted a historically bad defense as a direct result.

I think the larger issue is the QB panic in the overall NFL. It makes some of these QB's get drafted WAAAAAAY too high and often in places where development isn't going to happen. You gotta play because they drafted you that high. Other people's careers are literally in the hands of that decision.

Yes it can definitely wreck some QB's but IMO the overwhelming majority of those guys that end up busts....they were always going to be busts. I mean, Jayden Daniels didn't bust. Drake Maye didn't bust. Those guys were drafted by bad teams too.

So, if Cam Ward is gonna work out he will work out. If Bryce is gonna work out, he will work out. If Michael Penis Jr. is gonna work out, he will work out.

Nah man. Just admit that Fitts and Rhule were right about this one thing and move on. It's ok.

People seem to have this notion that first round QBs are 100% determined by their environment like a field of crops.  Like Bryce isn’t good because we didn’t water him enough basically.

I never said they weren’t. Hate how they ran the team but I’ve been more than pleased with DB and Horn even if I hated the picks at the time.

If that were true the Geno Smith stories would be all over the place. Also, the league would be flooded with extremely capable QB's, which it assuredly is not.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure some QB's have literally been ruined by their circumstances. David Carr comes to mind. But I do think that is the far rarer case.

Most of these guys just aren't good enough. It is what it is.
