Can't do it all in one offseason. Hopefully they make some progress in the draft.

Yeah of course. And I'm not expecting the next Luke or TD, but getting a Shaq caliber player in the last few years shouldn't have been so hard. We've tried with guys who wind up just sucking ass. I'd take just passable, but it's hard to fathom how bad ours have been lately.

Another defensive heavy draft on par with what they just pulled off should have them very competitive.

Eh....I just want to see BPA for the most part. I don't want to see another desperate draft like we used to see with Rhule and Fitterer.

Defense should be on the forefront for sure.

Someone in the structure doesn't value ILB's, IMO. Could be Evero, could be Dan.

Bills pass defense ranked 2nd

Bills rush defense ranked 31st

We won’t have to rely on Dalton’s arm to be competitive.

Sounds like the type of stats that DC will see and say "F it, lets give Dalton 60 passes in the game" while leaving Rico on the bench and giving Chuba maybe 5 carries in the game...

I honestly didn't see this kind of improvement coming. Especially the run defense.

As great as we all knew he was, I'm not sure any of us truly realized just how dominant a player Derrick Brown actually is.

I thought Brown was dominant from day 1 - at least at stopping the run. He has improved a lot from his rookie year with his pass rushing.

Love the weekly clips we get of DB ragdolling some poor olineman as he tackles the RB

I think it is a matter of priorities. We had some big ones. And like you said, and I have said also, it isn’t a one year job. Not with the way they neglected that side of the ball. I think you have to go back to Horn to find any real investment until this last offseason.

The D has been a pleasant surprise and I give them credit for a huge improvement over last year but linville (who I often disagree with) absolutely has a point here. Falcons are not a top 5 offense lol, they are bottom 5 by scoring offense and Penix played his worst game of the year against us. Cowboys are good but we allowed 27, not horrible like last year we'd have allowed 40+, but still not great. Dolphins got 24, pats got 42 on us, Jags 26. Our overall stats are skewed by the Atlanta shutout and playing the Jets' awful offense.

Don't get me wrong, I've been impressed by the D, largely Horn/Brown and the rookies, but it's been a pretty easy schedule and they still haven't been outstanding. Just solid.

While true, lets keep in mind that some awful turnovers from Bryce has pretty much either given opposition points or given them a short field to then score points. JAX, AZ, Miami, and Dallas (Tet's fault) game all had at least 1 turnover that pretty much let the opposing team score or start at our 25 or closer. Let's not even get into the punt coverage debacle of the Pats game...

Are the D's stats inflated by weaker offenses so far - probably. But the points allowed is misleading - offense and ST have played a big role in a good chunk of the points allowed.

It is really hard to rank defenses off of yards.
To me the only true measure is how they do against the powerhouse offensive teams. If you can get enough of those  those matchups.
Points allowed too. There might be a way to weight points allowed after turnover puts them up against it.
Yardage ain’t it for me.

This seems to be a relatively long running issue, IMO. The LB's have not been a priority since the Luvu signing.

    • So I looked into some of the data and here are some things I came up with using this specific article from the NFL: https://operations.nfl.com/gameday/analytics/stats-articles/what-we-learned-about-quarterback-push-sneaks-during-the-2022-nfl-season/   So, skipping all the math in determining the total amount of plays in that six year span and averaging it out on a per game basis for all 32 teams, it basically comes out to 6.8 "sneak" plays per season from 2017-2022. So, I also assumed since the basis of this article is on the rise of sneak plays in general over the time period that it has increased at a linear scale until this current season(2025). That would mean basically 9 sneak plays per season, per team.  Using the figures from your article snippet regarding success rate(assuming it is current/accurate) of traditional running plays vs. sneak plays that it would result in a total of 1.6 less successful plays per season without the ability to run a QB sneak at all. I guess my question is, what 1.6 plays have you see each year Bryce that would have resulted in.....well...much of anything different?
    • 4-3, over 500 for first time in career, bills coming off a bye week with a weak defense, hasnt really shown he’s worth an extension, etc. plus if he misses this game then you definitely sit him against Green Bay.
    • I think horn was covering Jake Ferguson that game which I can understand. Pickens is a monster and most corners in the league can’t man him up, obviously not Jackson. But we absolutely do not have a linebacker that can stay with Ferguson.
