I see Eli Manning is a finalist. Why?

2 rings, has iconic moments in massive spots in the playoffs, his last name, played in a big market. There's a good debate on whether he should be in or not but I think he should get in. Certainly over Rivers, Brees is a lock.

I just wasn’t impressed with him - to the degree of HOF worthiness - excluding a couple of seasons.
Your reasoning, especially the NYC market, is sound enough. I am a degree or two off of him, would not vote. And wouldn’t vote Rivers in either though he was was numbers king and a very good QB.

Giants fans didnt even like him 3/4 of the time.

Hot take... I'm completely over the HOF after last year's rule changes.

That the players already in the hardest HOF to get into, decided they wanted to make it more exclusive now that they're already in, changing the rules that will keep out players more worthy of being in the HOF than some already in there, is just kinda gross to me.

It's going to be very hard for players to get in with this new voting system unless they're the clear cut 1st ballot type of guys.

Cutting it down to 7 candidates who all should be in and then needing them to get a certain amount of votes on a new round is just ridiculous.  You're always going to get split voting amongst the non clear cut 1st ballot types, which is going to end up keeping players from reaching the threshold needed to get in.

There is just no reason for it, and that it was a decision made by the people who already got in under the old system, many of whom would NOT get in with this new system that THEY implemented, just pisses me off and makes the HOF illegitimate moving forward in my eyes.

I can agree the whole HOF process now seems much more hollow and manipulated than in years past. Mainly just lip service to the larger markets and biggest names. Meh.

Luke and Smitty should both get in (both should already be in, but here we are). Peanut and Greg, to me, are both Hall of Very Good players, not HOFers.

Peanut maybe but Greg was what the TE position looks like now.  He was the first TE to have 3 consecutive 1000 yd seasons.  I think he should be in.

Bingo. Two rings and he played absolutely out of his mind in those two runs. It wasn't like he got carried to those rings. I get that he was inconsistent throughout his career but in those two SB runs he was HIM.

Do I think he's a top level HOFer? Honestly, no. But I couldn't be mad about the guy getting in.

PFR puts together a pretty solid hall of fame "monitor" and the one for TE matches my view on Greg pretty closely:

First back to back 1000 yards is a cool milestone but not HOF worthy. He had a stretch of 5 solid-great years but with just 2 2nd team All Pro nods in that timeframe. Rest of his career outside those 5 years doesn't move the needle. If he didn't have the foot issues late in his career here and extended those 5 years to like 8 then I think he'd have a better case. But without much personal hardware, no significant career stat milestones and no team hardware I just don't really see him getting in. Would love it for him if he did, he's one of my favorite all time Panthers (obviously).

.500 qb, but he happened to show up very big in 2 specific games.

It really all gets down to a vote on how valuable are Superbowl wins, compared to an entire career.

I don't know if he deserves HOF, but I am not a voter, and I think he is in.

He helped keep the pats from having a perfect season. He should get in for doing every NFL fan that favor. lol

Quintessential cinderella story athlete, and did it twice. Plus good counting stats and was a top 2nd tier QB his whole career. He should absolutely be in.
