QB 2026 (For the Young Haters)

Recommended Posts

If Derek Carr decided to unretire I'd prefer him over all the other Veteran QB's available. He needed to take a year off for shoulder surgery but choosing to call it a retirement helped saved the Saints a bunch of cap.

If we are keeping Canales, we need a QB that fits his system. Bryce is not that guy, he can buy us a few years to build up the roster like Alex Smith did for KC but thats about it. We need to find the guy at some point, doesnt have to be next draft but maybe the one after.

fug Trading for a QB, has that ever worked out outside of like Favre and Young?

Edit, forgot Stafford.

lmao garrett nussmeier in the 2nd get the fug out of here

Are you saying he is a first round talent? He has looked pretty bad this year.  I would not take him top 15 and that is where we are likely to be.

Depends on the definition of it working.  Goff works. The Schuabs and Hasselbecks worked and that’s without getting into the Montanas.

Also, Bryce is no Alex Smith.  He went 6 straight years in KC with a winning record as a starter.  There is no Bryce comp.  Everyone as unproductive as Bryce has disappeared

Thats trading in the draft. i meant trading for a guy from another team like people have suggested.

Im cool with trading up in the draft for a guy. Just please not another Bryce.

I agree, the amount of starts he has had as the unquestioned starter is unbelievable.

Out of the Qbs that have ever started at least 38 games, Bryce has the 14th worst record of all time. If he wasnt Teppers love project he would have been gone already. He is definitely not alex smith, more so comparing the situation than the player.

As far as working the ultimate goal is a super bowl win, but yea those guys are okay examples.

lol the fans that think Canales or Bryce are on the hot seat in any way are nuts. a frisky .500 football team will happily work for Tepper.

Bryce has to be on Dan and Daves hotseat, fug Tepper hes just an owner. Let the fuging football guys decide.  Bryce has had very little to do with our wins if we are being 100% honest.

Bryce is not on their hotseat at all. he was taken off that list last season after the way he played towards the end of the season and both of them stated that they "found their QB". He has a better record, stats and racked up more come back wins since then. he's getting a 5th year option for sure, no questions asked.

Bryce has flat out and consistently been one of the worst if not the worst starting QB in the NFL over the last 3 years.  Anyone worse hasn’t played all 3 seasons.

We are having to play painfully archaic and safe football given he is our QB.  It’s winning in spite of him being the QB almost every time we find a win

that’s just reality.

and Bryce is statistically, pretty much unchanged.  And our wins are all on the back of Rico…..minus the Penix implosion.  And Bryce did nothing that Atl game either

Not sure there is 1 QB I want from this draft (definitely not in the 1st round). Ty Simpson might fit DC's offense the best (among the projected top 8ish QBs), but I'm not sure he is a legit NFL QB.

I think Ty Simpson will be a pro bowler.  Don't think we'll be in the running.

In a dream world we use the Thielen 4th to draft some guy that went overlooked and Canales develops him into the next franchise QB.

    • BPA comes with the caveat of positional value and roster need included. Never let the latter two completely overwhelm the first, however. Our FO seems to lean heavily into "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE POTENTIALZ!!!" as a fourth category and often it seems as the #1 overall pursuit. With as many needs as this roster has, I am not going to get upset over a real roster upgrade at WR versus some reach at EDGE or whatever other extreme needs we have. Overall, I want to see the roster get better. There is far, far, FAR more than one offseason of work left to get this roster into the top 10-12 in the NFL. That should be the goal.
    • I would say we are more likely to get smoked by Tampa, blast Seattle and then perplexingly lose to Tampa again.
    • In general, Dave Canales tends to target his TE's the least frequently of any position group(WR/RB/TE) during his three years of running an NFL offense.  However, if you notice this percentage has crept up over time. 2025 is the first year that TE has eclipsed RB in target percentage. Production has also gone up in 2025. This is a percentage of total output in each category. Canales has always used a very TE heavy offense. In fact, on average his offensive formations are 2 or 3 TE sets roughly 80% of all offensive formations. So, the question may be, with this uptick in total TE output, could an elite or top tier TE make a significant impact? I believe there is some evidence this may be the case. Here are a look at TE snaps and Cade Otten specifically. These are the snap percentages for all rostered TE's in every Dave Canales offense. The bolded cell is Cade Otten's whopping 96.46% of total snap counts in the single year he was in the Dave Canales offense in Tampa. This was overwhelmingly his career high. His production was higher with less utilization in 2024, however.    In conclusion, while I don't anticipate ever seeing a top 5 producing/Pro Bowl caliber TE performance in a Dave Canales offense, there does appear to be some evidence that an actual upgrade in our TE room would actually lead to increasing overall offensive efficiency. I think Otten's utilization rate does indicate that the splitting of time between our relatively even TE group would cede significant snaps if a far superior option were available. I believe this is an area we could(and should have this past offseason/draft) made a more concerted effort to get a dynamic TE threat, after the apparent failure that J. Sanders appears to have been.
