Another example of Bryce playing chess that casuals wouldn’t notice or appreciate

If your RB is averaging what Rico is you keep feeding him. Also the name of the game was to keep GB off the field by controlling the clock. This is done by running the ball. Not taking up for Bryce but this is what Canales wanted to do regardless and he got the result he wanted.

Name of the game in Carolina to win is to minimize Bryce Young.  See our wins.  All of them.   They tell a story.

As Micah Parsons said when questioned on why they didn’t take it to Bryce….Bryce Young had like 2 actual drop backs the entire game for a measly 100 yards.   Which isn’t how you win the in the NFL.

and Rico got them on the brink of FG position with that big runand Bryce wasn’t allowed to touch the ball after that.

I mean, Bryce is treated like a backup QB.  Simple as that.  Pretty tough to argue that he isn’t at this point.

You're doing too much. They literally won against the #1 team in the NFC at the time.

Rico had exactly 1 of the 20+ yards in that drive up to that point. Other than that play that fooled the defense, he had a total of 2 yards in the drive. I'm not saying Bryce lit it up, but he was crucial in the win. Particularly the last drive. Canales was playing for the FG after that. Had to make himself look smart for not deferring after winning the coin toss.

so his 2 TDs in Miami didn't help?

his 3 TDs against Dallas didn't help?

his TD against the Jets didn't help? Which btw was the only TD in the game.

And he should have had 2 against the Packers, but drops...

The only game where they truly didn't need anything from the QB was ATL. That was a defensive master class.

No one is saying he's lighting it up. NO ONE. But he has made big plays that have contributed to wins. He absolutely has. That doesn't mean he went out and won the game for Carolina. It means he's made a few big plays that have contributed to wins.

102 yards. 0 TDs. An INT. A fumble.

His biggest plays are negative plays. Getting your ass carried while being a burden isn't "contributing".

The crazy thing about football is it’s a team sport.

But one position can make or break the game.

And one of the best ways in doing that is by not giving the ball away and being able to run at 4-5 yard clips. Throw in a couple passes and next thing you know you’re in the red zone. Playing this way limits possessions to other(more dynamic) QBs too. And if your defense plays well that could equate to between 4 and six series. If you’re running that efficient, you can say, split the offensive production with the run or the pass. So by attempt byce accounted for his half of the yardage and Rico did too. Rico also managed to punch it in at the goal line. And you gotta give it to our oline and they’re running blocking and that’s without TMO!

so the truth is, Canales and management figured out how to use Bryce’s strengths to compliment this run game to cover up his weaknesses in a way that is efficient. And our defense showed improvement against pretty formidable opponent the week after andy dalton gave it to buffalo.

They are putting winning football on the field more often, and we are slowly becoming better each week. I hope they can keep it up.

    • Penn is hanging with Illinois. They've got to rebound better off all these threes Illinois is jacking up. If they do better on the boards in the second half they'll have a chance late.
    • Duke will beat TCU but I can't see them beating kansas or st John's
    • Dalton is ancient by NFL standards. Howell is only 25.  Howell's only year as a starter he put up almost 4k yards, 21/21 with a 43.2 QBR while being sacked 65 times.  This past year and the 3rd starting, which many would consider to be Bryce's best, he barely put up 3k yards 23/11 with a QBR of 47.6 while being sacked 27 times.  Pickett 4 years in the league, with 27 starts, he's amassed 4900 yards, 16/16 with a 53.6 QBR.  Now if Bryce were injured for a season, which QB would you say has more potential to step in and run an offense? I'd say Howell only because in a single season he threw for 1k yards less, more tds and granted more ints in 11 less games as a starter than Pickett's whole career.  Everyone is saying Pickett sucks, Howell sucks, but what I'm seeing is Bryce is right on par with them. Howell is on his 5th team, so is KP, yet Bryce just got a 5th year extension putting up pretty much similar numbers. The bar for QB on this organization is really low.  Did I want Howell? I didn't care. I wanted someone, anyone, who can potentially be better than what we've had the past 3 years or who we signed as a backup. We do not have even a mid tier NFL QB on the roster right now.  If Howell was brought in as camp fodder and didn't make the cut, wouldn't hurt my feelings at all. If we bring in another QB via the draft, I hope it's someone who could have the potential to be a starting QB with some development because that's the whole point.  We can't be afraid to bring in anyone who might have the potential to unseat Bryce or take his job if he's injured. The goal is to get winning seasons and make SB runs with hopefully a victory or 2. Pickett doesn't accomplish that. Dalton hasn't been able to even be in consideration for that role in over 2 years.
