We're basically the 2024 Colts... a "serviceable QB" away from being a legitimate team

Interesting take, so who do we get at qb next year?

The question is…what is Tepper’s frame of mind going forward. Will he let his GM and coach draft their quarterback or will he micromanage again? Has he finally seen enough?

We have a Tyler Warren comp?

Don't remind me...😭  Dude is on pace for a 1,000 yard season as a rookie TE. That sh1t is freaking unheard of.

He's a system guy they said...he's a gadget player they said, his game won't translate to the Pros they said.  Well, they were WRONG!

I'd take Steichen over Canales. The Colts played well even with all the injuries Anthony Richardson dealt with and playing journeymen QBs for most of his tenure as head coach. Anyone else remember that game the Colts played against the Panthers in 2023 where Bryce threw two pick 6's?

Yeah that Colts team has been built correctly - which is OP's point.

Our D was stripped back to the studs last year to pump everything into O to help Young out. He failed.

We actually brought in some NFL talent in the offseason on D and look at the difference in results.

We need to continue to stay the course and build through the Draft and look for a competent QB in FA.

Not even close.

Dude is probably the best TE in the league already as a rookie.

I'm sure OP was alluding to Saunders but I like Evans better.  Less than half the targets.  Same first downs.  More TDs.  Better average per catch.

Statistical wash. The only difference is one is a WR and the other is a TE, which shouldn't even be close, even in today's NFL

I was told that drafting a TE over a WR or EDGE would be a dumb move with our first round pick.  Generally speaking, it is, but generational talents break the rules of conventional norms.  I knew that, but people didn't want to listen to reason and held tight to their drafting 101 rules of thumb.

The defense is NOT legitimate. I think we have schemed well against some teams, but this team has real problems on defense. We are further behind on defense than offense in terms of competing, which sounds insane given our lack of offensive production, but its true. Get a QB that can complete intermediate and long passes routinely and the offense opens up, but it forces other teams to throw deep too, and we can't stop that poo. No pass rush, no backers that can cover tight ends, and only 1 corner (who got roasted yesterday).

I agree with this. I think Jaycee is really good when he's good. but he's also really bad when he's bad.

DB is one of the best players in the league and were lucky to have him.

Scourton has been a phenomenal 2nd round rookie.

I don't like spending money at safety, but Moehrig has been really good too.

I'd spend nearly the entire draft on that side of the ball. We could use a really good player at every level on D. If the BPA when we pick is a DT, I hope that's the position we take. I'd even take a lower value position, like MLB. We just have to improve.

Warren is special no doubt.

I think McMillan was a good pick for us, a more consistent passer he would probably have some better stats than he has now.

The big problem with this is Steichen >>>>> Canales

Not to mention they have a legitimate MVP candidate right now in Taylor.  And while we like Rico and Hubbard, c'mon, now even the most die hard Panthers fan isn't dumb enough to think they're anywhere near his level.

I don't think you frequent the draft sub-forum, but my argument for us to draft Warren (yes, that was my draft crush) was WR classes are increasingly deep draft after draft, but TEs like Warren or even Bowers are a once a draft or once every several drafts type of prospect.  If you have a chance to grab a dude like that you don't pass them up.  You can get legit WRs deep into round one or even on the second day, no problem.  There's usually not just one can't miss WR prospect in any draft class. At most you have one TE, if any at all, in a given draft class.

The D is still rebuilding - it was bereft of talent last year.

The reason behind that is that premium resources have been spent on assets to support Young. Defense has been filled out with scraps, or as someone else put it, rotational players put in to starter positions.
