Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is putting the league on notice early into his NFL career, and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is well aware.

“I think he’s a stud,” Shanahan told reporters Thursday. “He’s going to be one of the best receivers in this league sooner than later. He’s got all the skill sets to do it, and I think he’s just getting started.”

Through 11 games played, McMillan has racked up 748 receiving yards on 54 receptions. He ranks sixth in the NFL in receiving yards and leads all rookies in the category.

Carolina selected McMillan as the No. 8 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. San Francisco had the 11th overall pick.

Did the receiver out of Arizona catch Shanahan’s eye in draft preparation?

“Yeah, big time,” Shanahan said.

Shanahan also said that he thought the receiver would be taken well ahead of the 49ers’ draft position, but the team did their due diligence when scouting the best overall draft picks in the 2025 class. With McMillan off the board, San Francisco ended up selecting defensive end Mykel Williams with the 11th pick to bolster its defensive line.

Well of course.

He's just getting started to be honest. During draft season, I told y'all he had the chance to be a unicorn, and I still believe it. We just have to have consistently legitimate QB play.

I also went on record saying the highest rated WR would be good as well... 😉

Jokes aside.. he is a difference maker.

I mean, I didn't hate the pick, always thought he had some potential, not sure if I was sold on him pre-draft though to be honest

You were driving the train---and rightfully so being a UArizona alum, and you have received and deserve your candy and flowers---but you weren't the only one on board.

Yeah, I was on that bandwagon as well. I liked Egbuka and Burden as my other top guys at WR.

I will say, as good as some of the WR's in this class has been, the TE class has really lived up to the hype. There are a BUNCH of impact rookies at TE.
