I definitely was. People forget how bad those first two years were. So much footage of him getting abused in the run game by all these different IOL.

I think he just took more time than most elite players at his position to figure out some of the nuances of the position. Which, he was also there during the Matt Rhule era so the quality of the coaching was definitely in question.

He has a down year after his rookie year and that seems to happen to a lot of players. If I recall Rhule had him playing out of place that year too.  Was he the NT?

Well he was also pretty bad his rookie year. He had a very rough 2.5 to 3 years before it really started to click. But when that light turned on, yowzer. He has consistently been a top 10 IDL and arguably top 5 IDL since 2023.

Let's hope he stays healthy and continues to get even better. He is a core member of our new team.

Not quite right:

Rhule draft picks currently playing on the roster

  • Ickey Ekwonu
  • Cade Mays
  • Brady Christensen
  • Tommy Tremble
  • Chuba Hubbard
  • Jaycee Horn
  • Derrick Brown

To be completely fair, Brown was a Marty Hurney pick.  On brand, Marty crushed the first round selection and crapped the bed with the rest of the draft (Jeremy Chinn withstanding, but he's not on the roster).

I've been critical of Brown in the past. I never thought he was a bust. I just felt that to be taken that high in the draft he needed to have a bigger impact in the field, especially in terms of a pass rush in a pass-happy league. He always been good in most games against the run.

This year his pass rush has improved. He has a career high 4 sacks this season (which leads the team), and we still have 4 games to go. That sack number is literally 1/3 of his career sack total (12).

Even more impressive is the fact that he's having such a great season coming off an season-ending injury in 2024. He (and Horn)  are really living up to their draft slot...and that's a good thing for the team and fans alike.

I think having that injury happen the first game last year allowed him to thoroughly rehab and not try to hurry back.
They took it a little easy on him and that was apparently more of a precaution.. early in the year they weren’t using him to try and get a pass rush.

    • You got that right  on replays, you could clearly see the Rams  oline holding over and over and over again
    • Careful.... you put him in the Louvre, he will get stolen.....
    • Because you don't bring in competition if you're paying your QB 27m. Look at what we did with Darnold and Mayfield. He's either your guy or he isn't. Hes not playing on the final year and most agents aren't going to let a 5th year stand. They'll push for the extension now. If we're willing to do the 5th year, why aren't we willing to do the extension? That's why I didn't care what the win loss record was this year. We needed to know if Bryce is the franchise QB or not. At the end of the year we have to make a decision that locks us in to Bryce for the next 5 or we move on. Now maybe his agent doesn't play hard ball with the Panthers, but I don't see that happening. Most likely we decide Bryce's future in Carolina at the end of this season. Extend, trade or cut. That's the most likely scenario based on history. Bryce's play over the past 3 years, are you paying him 50m a season? And who are you letting walk to do it? Give Bryce his extension and Icky is all but gone. Can't pay everyone on that line and there are too many bonuses that will be accelerated. It's not so simple as just play him on the 5th year.
