I'm probably closer to a Trevor hater than anyone and I think I'd take this deal.  Jesus.

Why.

Lawrence is either the same or worse than Young in almost every statistically catagory. And it isn't just this year. comp%, TD-INT ratio, 1st down success, etc.

He might be bigger and have a stronger arm but he has not played like the better QB.

Bryce as a starter (12 games vs 12 games).  Sets up perfectly given the week we fall on.

2024 - 195 pass yards per game, 20 rush yards per game, 21 TDs, 11 turnovers

2025 - 194 pass yards per game, 10 rush yards per game, 19 TDs, 13 turnovers

If anything it will give them time to find his replacement. If they had done that last offseason they would be in much better position to move on. But as you've saw the option behind him is going to take some time to make it right.

I don't think they are looking for his replacement.

I think he fits what Canales wants to do. I think they are looking for continued improvement and believe it will come with time.

I don't expect them to try and extend him but unless he just craps out the rest of the season, I would expect them to pick up his 5th year.

I think his ceiling is higher under Dave Canales

I genuinely hope we are not having extension talks yet.

Graziano does say he "talked to a bunch of Panthers people" and his takeaway was that "they still believe in him".

My read on the extension talk though is that it's mostly hypothetical.

If they are not looking for a plan B if/when the wheels fall off then they will not have their jobs long.

I am kind of amazed that the organization still believes. It definitely shakes any remaining faith of a turnaround, that's for sure.

Of course there is an element of, "well what do you expect them to say?"

If you're going to post comparisons, you should post them all.

If you take the time to look, you can see he has improved in pretty much every catagory: TD%, TD-INT ratio, succ% (passes going for 1st downs), yards/game, adjust yards gained per pass attempt, 4th qtr comeback, game winning drives etc.

Yeah, I'd honestly rather be sitting on Bryce with no major future commitment than Lawrence on a franchise QB contract. The former situation gives you options, you're pretty much stuck with the status quo for the foreseeable future in the latter.

Improved is true. Good is a different thing.

I think that is the issue, he has improved to "not very good" from "really bad."

Are we to assume this progression continues? If so, it probably means 2-3 more seasons before we see "franchise caliber" QB play on a consistent basis.

And I really don't think anyone buys into that notion of consistent improvement at this point.

    • All signs point to legit. We’ve been way better than our record the last few years it’s just we’ve had brutal injury luck. Also I’ve watched nearly every game this year and 3 things have stood out to me even when healthy from early in the year to now: 1. Early on Lee had some brutal rotations and situational coaching but he’s improved a ton there. We lost some close ones early we should’ve won. Sure most our recent games have been blowouts but in close games we’ve improved a ton there. 2. Defense. Overall team defense has improved so much, it’s not just hot shooting winning games. This D is absolutely a real trend and sustainable. LaMelo in particular has gone from flat out bad defensively to above average. We have so much length we always should’ve been good defensively but it took time for guys to buy in and really hone in on it which they have.   3. Pretty much all our young guys have taken strides forward. Moose’s development as a passer has been insane, Miller is putting it all together to be an elite 3 tier scorer able to hit 3s, mid range and finish at the rim. LaMelo still some poor shot selection but has cut the turnovers considerably. Kon has been a great shooter all year but has steadily improved in other aspects of the game too.      It has definitely been surprising how quickly it all came together out of nowhere but really none of it surprises me. We’ve been building towards this for years now.
