Ekwonu doesn’t get dog walked under 2 minutes in the 4th, we drive, kick a FG and win

I'm just kinda baffled by it. He was a #1 overall pick that we traded a king's ransom for because we were betting on him being a game changer and yet there's a decent chunk of the fanbase that wants to treat him like a mid-round pick drafted to be a likely backup. If we'd drafted Bryce in say the 4th round and he was a backup forced into action I'd be singing his praises. We would be getting pretty decent play based on the level of expectations. I'd be saying you can't move forward with this guy as a starter because of his low ceiling but as a mid-round backup QB I can't really be mad at how he's playing. This is what you expect out of a mid-round backup QB. But when you're getting mid-round backup QB play out of a third year #1 overall pick you've mortgaged the franchise for and have tried to tailor your offensive roster and play calling to support, you really need to be shifting the perspective to realizing that you it's time to move on.

Yeah, it's crazy the level of wanton ignorance there seems to be about all this. As you said, I'd be amped up to have gotten a backup QB this solid in Day 3 of the draft. But #1 overall????

This just isn't something we are going to be able to bet the future on. And especially when the instances of him showing any shred of elite play are so incredibly fleeting. It's like banking the entire future of the franchise on a couple of laser passes by PJ Walker.

Time to start that QB contract clock over, and continue building this team up; in particular, the defense.

If you could get rid of Bryce this offseason, I’d do it

If we are planning on moving on, especially as a trade, it is literally only going to be this offseason. With that 5th year picked up, he will have zero interest or next to zero interest in the 2026 or 2027 trade market.

As much as I hate to say it, Bryce to KC this offseason could make sense. Reid could be one of the only minds to be able to do something there. Bryce plays on his final year while Mahomes recovers. Not the ending we hoped for but one I'd take.

I am down with that but his price tag is going to possibly be problematic for KC. Minshew is on a league minimum deal and they are projected to be $44 mil over the cap at the beginning of next offseason. A $4.2 mil backup might actually be a little pricey in their situation.

He could have felt it maybe sure, but it is the qb blind side for a reason.  He read the blocking scheme and knew it was 1 on 1.  Sometimes the defense wins too, you are going to blame bryce no matter what happens so Im not sure why im wasting my time telling you how youre wrong.

If you can see your LTs blocking infront of you then it's not a blind side...that's when he should have stepped up. That's just running back too far out of protection and that's on Bryce.

Going to be interesting to see if they credit Bryce or Ickey with the sack. Im guessing Bryce.

If you feel the compulsive need to make excuses and then blame others blindly then maybe don't point fingers? I crap on Bryce but when he earns it. This was on him IMO

It's the expectations of a backup. Everyone wants to blame the D or the coaches or anyone other than the QB that threw for 168 yards and a TD at a barely over 60% clip like he's a backup. When you're playing your backup, you're expecting to have a very low margin of error and needing the coaches and rest of the team to carry him. But when that's the expectations from a third year former #1 overall pick, that's just flat out admitting the guy ain't it.

We can all agree there is plenty of blame to go around for that BS loss(two losses, for that matter) but you can't win with a QB that basically only significantly factors into the game 2-4 times on average.

I mean....this all has to end. We can't keep up this charade of "just wait it out!" He ain't gonna be fuging Baker Mayfield(what a joke). He ain't gonna be Geno Smith(who has 60% of a career to wait??). He ain't even gonna be Mr. Seeing Ghosts himself.

He will be lucky to be Chad Pennington.

It.

Is.

Over.

The best these folks can do is just accept it.

Precisely. I feel line people are giving away the participation trophy equivalent of praise to Bryce in almost all his "good" games.

He isn't a top 25 starting QB. No matter how you dice it, that is always going to be a problem. Especially when his "ascent" is at such a glacial pace as to be almost imperceptible.

Does anyone really want to wade through another few years of wishing and hoping?

2 years if they get the 5th

Disagree look at the Stills yea he got beat but Bryce kept dropping instead of climbing a completly clean inside pocket....

The standard for stepping up in the pocket is to the point at which the QB can still see over his OL, otherwise, there is no advantage to stepping up in the pocket to read the defense and work through the progressions. If he's stepping up in the pocket at that point, then he's running or looking to the flat for his hot.

Ekwonu should be playing guard and Bryce is not an NFL QB for these critical game situations where his limitations are a weakness to the offense.
