We have speed in the room. We need skill in the room. All our "fast" guys are super low on skill.

Skill beats speed 95% of the time.

Horn really is probably too small to be your speed. He would have to get more open than NFL open on deep plays if they ever tried it

Tyreek Hill is small. It's about the ability to use the skills you have to get open and utilizing that speed. Horn has zero physical limitations in that regard.

Is he skilled enough and dedicated enough to do so? To be determined.

I will say that they don't seem to view him as a legit WR, which is perplexing. Especially since they view XL as one, despite the mountainous amounts of evidence otherwise.

Hill is also built for contact, he just happens to be short.   Sort the Kyler vs Bryce scenario

Horn short and small.   Thats gonna impact ability down the sideline IMO and all sorts of areas

Yes but that doesn't prohibit you from being a very effective player. It can mean that you will be played differently in coverage to limit you but that's still going to have skill and usage elements that can nullify it.

Point being that I am never going to get overly caught up on the "too small" narrative if the player has elite attributes that are greater than those physical limitations.

That's the issue with Bryce. All of the supposed "elite" attributes turned out to be vaporware. So now you get left with a small, physically limited player that has little in the way of skills. Nightmare scenario.

Horn is both fast and quick. Yes he is slight but if he were elite in other aspects(vision, route running, hand fighting, hand eye coordination, etc) that would be very much less significant.

You misspelled Ladd.  If only he was available when we picked XL, how our WR room would look different.  [sigh]

That's a very obvious example because we so clearly made the wrong choice.

But it works perfectly here and is a cautionary tale of why you never take physical attributes with low skill level over extremely high skill level with lesser physical attributes.

You can add more skill to the receiving core you can draft Ladd McConkey instead of Xavier Legette but at the end of the day they can't throw themselves the ball too. Right now it's like Jimmy Clausen with 89. You can have a dog out there at receiver and still have a pitiful passing offense more often than not. If the coaches have been looking at the film throughout this season and haven't figured that out then it really doesn't matter who we add next year.

I'm more convinced Legette is a bust than I was with Mingo at this point in his tenure.

He has no short area quickness, can't play against zone, you need to scheme him open with presnap movement.  Another guy where you have to hyper-fixate to create an offense FOR rather than create an aspiring offense WITH.

Yeah, his athleticism measurable just don't show up on the field. No vision, no suddenness, no instincts, goes down easily. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. The guy owes every NFL dime he's gonna make to getting gifted an extra year of college play. At this point I'd probably bet on him not making g next year's final roster and maybe bouncing around a couple of practice squads for a year or two and put ofnthe league. I hope he's being smart with his money.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
