BREAKING NEWS: Per Jeremy Fowler, Panthers expected to pickup Bryce Young's 5 year option

Recommended Posts

Not exactly what he said. He expects it. Perhaps Kimes expects it, but they're just reading the tea leaves like everyone else. Hell, I expect it ( considering our FO). But there is nothing definitive as of yet.

I dont see any possible advantage of doing this.

Better than signing him to a long term deal, which is what Mina is saying. He hasn't shown enough for a long term extension. I think the 5th year option deadline is kinda bullshit though personally, way too early to have to decide

Darkest day in Panthers history behind the day Fred Lane was murdered.

thats not even the darkest murder in panthers history.  Rae Carruth (may he fugin rot in hell one day) murdering Cherica Adams is the darkest blotch on the organization by a mile and as much as Im not in favor of signing the 5th year option for bryce, its like comparing apples for range rovers.

I mean, you wanna go cold turkey...Enter a QB abyss? I seriously doubt that a move like that will be sanctioned (and that's probably the most realistic way to fix the problem). Brett Rypien, anyone?😂

Picking it up basically guarantees him here 2 more years due to the cost.  Furthermore I doubt he is going into year 5 without an ext so basically now we are going to need 4 years to see if he can actually play.  Up to now I think any reasonable fan can see this experiment isnt working.   I would not go cold turkey I would sign someone this offseason as well as draft a guy.

So again I dont see any real value of the 5th

That 5th year was as good as chiseled in stone following the 2nd Atlanta game this season.

The more important question is do we extend him after this 3rd year, following a playoff appearance, as soon as he is eligible, and just skip the charade of the option all together?

I disagree. Look, Carruth was a POS. She was a POS too, let’s face it. A stripper running an old game on him.

The child was truly the only innocent there.

He wasn’t innocent. She wasn’t innocent either. She just picked the wrong rich athlete. Play stupid games…. You don’t know what you are setting in motion.

I can’t compare that to Fred Lane’s death. Free country we can disagree.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
