Cam Newton to have "private meeting" with J.R.

Let's say they decide to draft him. I would draw up the contract and there would be escape clauses for character violations. Signing bonus money would be strictly limited. I would even have clauses in the contract that compensate the panthers if any more news about his past that would be detrimental to his image and that of the team surfaces, giving him the opportunity for full, honest, sincere disclosure up front.

You act like the team will have all the leverage when it comes to signing a contract. That won't fly with Cam's agent I assure you. This guy didn't murder someone. He didn't kill dogs. Understand that there are some questions but they are minor in nature.

I will say this. If after the Panthers do the due diligence, if they feel wary enough that they feel they would need something like that in his contract. They won't take him.

And you will be able to rejoice!!! :)

Sure I do there are only 50 on the friggin front page. and His lovers like you are now to the point its spamming and a crusade.

I didn't realize the "Nut Huggers" set up a private meeting between JR and Cam.

And executives whose jobs are on the line don't care about hype.

There is a real reason he is in this conversation and it ain't hype.

Let's see Newton has flaws, so does Mallett. Well if we are going to lower the bar for Newton then we must lower it for Mallett too. Either one could be the QB of the future for us then.

I would agree with you, but if he is addicted to coke that will be his whole life.

It isn't like smoking pot. Cocaine consumes you. It is a serious issue that can't co-exist with an athletic career.

Just ask all the NBA players from the 70's and early 80's.

FINALLY, someone in the media says what I've been trying to convince the haters of for weeks now. The VY/Russell comparisons are all about race. There's just no other explanation for it because anyone who looks deeper with an objective eye has to realize Newton is not the same numbskull that both those guys are.

Anytime there is a player in the draft who is ranked highly based on his upside there will be serious questions and doubters. It's not about race that is redonkulous.

We're allowed to bring in a certain number of people for private looks. Can we take someone like Newton out onto the practice field, have them look at a bunch of guys lined up in shorts and ask him, 'OK, what do you see? Who's blitzing?' Poo like that? Things that don't involve knowing our playbook, but reading defenses and situations.

    • I mean, poster also said Young or Mahomes, it would have made no difference.  If there was way to actually test that hypothetical, I would sell every belonging I have and wager that Mahomes would indeed yield different results.  Mahomes automatically changes the D coverages.  He automatically changes the threats.  He attacks and threatens a field different vastly different.   We have seen good QBs and great QBs play behind horrific OLs in a single season....and they don't default into being the worst team in the NFL.  Frank Reich was old, stubborn and not creative enough to deal with an anomaly QB like Bryce.  The best QB in the NFL wouldn't be handicapping Frank, they would be enhancing Frank.  Starting week 1, Frank didn't even trust Bryce with basics....Frank gave him I what I feel comfortable with you being able to do offense.  Which took throws and plays off the table because Bryce couldn't do early on what a bad vet in Dalton could.  Mahomes would not yield the same results.
    • All I have to say to this really, is it sounds nice and downgrades Stroud to make Young look better is more like what this take does. Look at the WR numbers the year before and then the year with Stroud. He made them better, not the other way around. That’s my opinion. I appreciate you designating that it was yours. Many state these things as facts.
    • but what if.....and here me out....the pro Bryce Young stuff was coming from people under Fitterer.  You know, the people who are employed to feed him that input.  And they happen to all still be employed here.  when Rhule was fired I desperately wanted Fitterer fired.  It set things up for Fitterer to be the sacrificial lamb the next time things went poorly....every time we move on from a disaster, we are retaining a heavy % of the folks who helped bring the disaster we are "moving on from".  Everyone argued Fitterer probably could be great and it was all Rhule.  We are just repeating the same stuff to a degree IMO.   Panthers needed a clean slate post Rhule era.  Needed another post Frank era.  Things were just too bad or too dysfunctional IMO to be salvaging so much.   We keep failing to do that.
