Shoutout to BIG MONEY Tepper and Dan Morgan and Matt Rhule

Rhule was right all along, 7 years for Jay-Z and 7 years since we made the playoffsĀ

so Rhule was right all along šŸ™‚

Ā

kidding aside Tepper came into this organization HOT thinking he’s smarter than every other billionaire in the league and that we needed all these stats, data, hiring fads like Rhule, pissing off local and state government

Ā

Ā over the past two seasons, he’s taken the back seat and doing billionaire stuff like counting his money but the reality is he’s hired football guys like Morgan who brought in more football guys like Brandt Tilliis.Ā
Ā

the jury is still out on Canales evolving as a coach and if BY9 is ā€˜the guy’ but we’ve got deep pocketed ownership and the football braintrust to push this team finally forward

If you dont realize that the Falcons have a way more talented roster than we do and also no first rounder this draft then I dont know what to tell you.

Oooooo...that one stung.

Also, fug Tepper.Ā  He's only ruined this franchise, so backdooring into the playoffs simply because the rest our division is a heaping pile of steaming dung, is zero reason to give that man an iota of credit.

Canales is mid AF.

Morgan is getting better at his job after a questionable start, but I wouldn't cement him in his position for the long term.

Different situation and context. To be clear, in general the Falcons were expected to compete for the division, and, to put it bluntly, we were not. The Falcons roster was generally thought to be ready to compete for a deep run when he took Raheem Morris took the job. Moreover, Morris and GM Terry Fontenot made the decision to take Penix Jr., notwithstanding all that money Kirk Cousins was paid, and the decision backfired big time.Ā

The comment was a one-liner that doesn't pass muster when analyzing the two situations.

As for David Tepper, I would think that it's pretty obvious that he has taken a backseat since Dan Morgan has been a GM. For those that don't want to give him credit for adjusting his modus operandi, I guess you'll continue to berate him into perpetuity because it's easy and "fun," I guess.Ā

Admittedly, Ā has made what turned out to be boneheaded decisions in retrospect based upon what I'll refer to as "billionaire bravado," pre-Morgan, but it is what it is. Tepper was a bit of a control freak, and probably still is (they probably all are), but at least now he is letting football guys run the show. Now I'm not one that says the owner should never get involved, especially when things are going badly, but that should largelyĀ be to swing the axe, and signing off on major changes. Tepper wants to win, and he's trying to make it happen, and I can appreciate the improvement.Ā

As for Morgan, and by extension Canales, we'll see. They're still relatively new at their positions (as is Tepper, relatively). They aren't going to be perfect, and are still figuring things out. I think that the improvement from the 2024 draft to the 2025 draft is stark, but you have to realize that the prior draft was hamstrung due to the residual effects of the king's ramson for Bryce Young, and it was this admin's first draft. And, of course, it must never be forgotten that they came into the situation hamstrung by Bryce Young, who was not their choice (especially DC's), and is a ways away from the prototypical franchise QB. In light of all that, I would be surprised if either is fired after the season.Ā

Although I am skeptical and critical of Canales, and don't necessarily think that he has made improvements coaching---situational play calling in particulatlr---I still can't fully say he can't coach as long as he has Bryce as a QB. In one sense, I can say that it's amazing that he has improved in spite of Bryce's shortcomings, but in another sense I can say that we're not going to go anywhere fast, or anywhere at all, if this duo is allowed to go on, as Dave is coaching to Bryce's shortcomings (so to speak), because that's all that he can do if the team has any opportunity to eek out some wins.Ā

In other words, I still don't know how this is going to go, but I do pretty much know that we improved, if only incrementally, and that Tepper's change is obvious, Dan's change from year one to year two is a little less obvious, though still stark, Canales may or may not have improved as he's tied down, and Bryce hasn't really improved at all. Admittedly, I don't think Bryce is the long term answer, so my opinion of him may be highly subjective, but I just don't see it. We don't know what the fug we're going to get week to week, and I see the same mistakes though Canales may beĀ trying to mitigate them.Ā

For me, it seemed bringing in Tillis to help guide the process was one of the biggest factors in avoiding our typical draft and FA blunders.Ā  Still dealt with coaching and personnel issues, but I think Brandt is a huge factor.Ā  It's another Beane situation.Ā Ā

So the PFF angle is turning out to look pretty damned good. šŸ˜‰

Morgan and Tillis have the Panthers trending in the right direction and it is nice to have hope.Ā  I'm still not sold on Canales and definitely not on Tepper.Ā Ā Ā Ā

Hope you're right.Ā  This off-season will help to confirm that.

I am hopeful this is the part of the show where Dan and Dave prove themselves worthy and capable of taking complete charge of the roster/team construction.
And that being recognized, they will have the power to jettison this little albatross QB. And will do so. Ā

Trading up to take the #1 pick that hadn't delivered a winning season yet wasn't a huge blunder? All this playoff spot is to me is simply to get off the playoff drought list.Ā

We very well may be in the same spot as the Falcons are now next year, actually fairly likely.Ā  There should be very few, if any, excuses not to eclipse this season.Ā  I simply don't see it happening.

    • okay I found this and it sounds like my hopes for the first surgery being not such a great job seems like it could be actual reality.Ā  I only hopedĀ because that would give a better chance for recovery and ia a possible scenario so I just thought it could be possible. Had no real evidence of it. But I’llĀ be damned.Ā  Ā  This is a detailed report of Brooks’ surgery and the condition of his knee after the failed repair. Ā  Ā  https://x.com/jmthrivept/status/2055743129408704806?s= Sparked by some very good questions by @CoachspeakIndex, here’s some info on Jonathon Brooks: 1. Speculation that the first graft/ACLR by Dr. Cooper didn’t ā€œtakeā€ or at least was too lax, leading to failure and re-tear. Brooks dealt with issues cutting, progressing in his rehab into the early stages of 2024 and then re-tore it late 2024, requiring a second ACLR in January 2025 (essentially revision). Notably, CAR prolonged Brooks’ rehab process through Sept-Oct due to issues progressing into the next stages of rehab. 2. Second surgery performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who has extensive experience with revisions. He did a double bundle technique, harvesting graft from Brooks’ left patellar tendon and a strip of his right IT Band (his right patellar tendon had been utilized for the prior graft in 2023. The double bundle technique significantly increases rotational stability of the knee, leading to a stronger and more secure graft/reconstruction. Also to note, Brooks’ surgery wasn’t significantly delayed, meaning that the tunnels from his prior ACLR were in good shape and they didn’t need to perform bone grafts to fill in (would have delayed 2nd surgery by 5-6 months). Essentially, reading the tea leaves tells me that everything else except for the graft itself was still in good quality within his knee. Good sign for future.Ā  3. Typically, you see a performance increase anywhere from 16-20 months post-revision. Brooks will be ~21 months out from his second surgery by the time Week 1 hits. His knee should be more stable and stronger this time around, with adequate time for healing and return to all movement patterns. I’m not viewing this situation as a typical ā€œPlayer __ had TWO ACL tears, he’s cookedā€ situation. Rather, I’m viewing it as the first procedure failed, but the second procedure is significantly stronger and should allow him to return to form this time around. I don’t know why it posted as a link but there it is. Ā
    • Jackie, any more reps tomorrow, or is that it for this session?Ā  thanks for the work
    • How can you say they aren’t trying to win now with all the moves made in free agency? Or is trading first round picks the only way to be win now? I’d be fine never trading another first round pick again, win now be damned.
