Matthew Stafford is in the running for the MVP this year and may win it. He missed more throws in this game than Bryce did. No QB is perfect, but it seems like Bryce has to play a perfect game for people here to think he’s not a bottom 5 qb. It’s crazy.

He had a bad game and still threw 300 yards and 3 tds.

With a hurt hand.

And he'll be 38 next month.

Imagine Bryce Young when what little athleticism he has is gone.

He has come SO FAR since his first start back in 2023. I thought he’d be out of the league in a year back then. Now he is a competent starting QB who has shown plenty of flashes of greatness. Has carried our offense since week 14 and if he continues to improve( no reason to think otherwise) has the ability to take us to a Super Bowl.

You saw Stafford’s finger get mangled right? There are stats showing what he did prior and post that finger injury.  Looks like maybe they got some relief for it at halftime maybe because he got back on track.
I am not saying bad about Bryce here, just that comparison. It ain’t level. And he ain’t near Stanford as a QB.

For those who chose option 5, what made you think Bryce is "an average NFL QB"? Everything we've seen with our own eyes and the stats strongly suggest he's bottom of the leap to historically bad.

I voted 5 because it was the closest to how I view him. I do think Young is an average NFL QB. I dont think he is an average NFL starter though, big difference. Like if you lined up every 1st 2nd & 3rd string QB, Young would be right in the middle somewhere.

The failed 4th down play early in the game was a terrible call by Canales.

He took us down and scored the go-ahead TD with 2 plus minutes on the clock.  The pass to Coker was pinpoint and an amazing pass.

I never said the defense didn't play well but, you can't expect Young to deliver every time.  He had 32 seconds starting with a false start so we're already behind the eight ball. The biggest key our defense not stopping them was JC Horn out of the lineup.

While I agree we could provide some serious competition at the QB position.  I am not going to sit here and make the loss all about Bryce Young.  You can hang your hat on it all you want but he wasn't the reason we didn't win the game.

The final drive was his moment. Dave was calling the plays, but Bryce, at the line, with 3 time outs, needing 30 yards with 40 seconds left, has to read the field, see what the defense is giving him, and adjust the play call if necessary. The middle of the field was wide open. We didn't have to get it all in 1 chunk. Your QB has to be able to do that. If he can't, he shouldn't be behind center. That's what I hang on Bryce. His inability to recognize the defense in the moment, adjust the play at the line to take what's given, and use our 3 timeouts to get us in field goal range instead of going 0-4, trying to get it all in one big play when that's what the defense was guarding against.

That last half minute was pretty lame. Perfunctory performance, more like going through the motions and just get me out of here.

This happened in the regular season too, in a loss, did it not? This happened so fast you hardly had time to take it in.

Pretty disappointing.  You can at least do your lil dump off and get a few yards, call a timeout. Try again. Zero freaking yards, bada bing bada boom, over, with a whimper.

We had time outs left on the board. If you need a minute to collect yourself, use one. It's better than being out there anxious or in a rush. Having your poo together is more important than having that 3rd time out.

I honestly think the conservative play has alot to do with Canales

I’m 70/30 on it leaning towards that as well. The 30% is the times I’ve seen him have chances down the field and he just checks down. Could also be confidence in the receivers he had in those scenarios as well.

Yeah I bet if you did a deep dive I lot of the times he doesn't let it rip is when XL is on the field

I know I'm going to get pooed for this but since the beginning given the physical limitations and what everyone hoped Bryce would be- he was supposed to be the next brees.

Now Bryce had a terrible situation his first year but stats still count. In his first 3 years with luminaries such as thielen ( who pulled a houdini this year) chark,  and Leggette as his top wr his first 2 years Bryce has had

8291 yards 49 tds 30 ints 61.4 completion %

In his first 3 years brees ( i omit his actual first year bc he only threw 27 passes) had

8551 yards 55 tds 38 ints 61.3 completion %

Brees wasn't the brees his first 4 years. Young has shown to be a couple things in his tenure. He's more durable than expected. He isn't a gigantic douche and is easy to root for. He is clutch ( yes we lost but he got us the lead with 2 and change to go and he isnt the reason we lost). He has handled a ton of adversity. And he's wildly inconsistent.

Give him his 5th year. Let him grow for 2 years with tmac and Coker. Draft some mid rounder to push him but im still cautiously hopeful he can grow into a legit starter with some better playcalling and growth

To whom it may concern, I'm the one who gave him the bottom vote.  He's THE liability on this team.  With a competent QB that has moderate physical tools we are competing for a championship.  This roster, as I've said for a while, is very well assembled and ready to compete right now.  It is hamstrung by the QB.

Yeah the 23rd ranked defense is so ready to compete for a championship right now!

    • My biggest fear with Bryce Young is that he will always do just enough to stick around. He shows flashes and then drops a turd so the hopium is always there. Like his career highlight reel if you cut it up to some hype music and did a YouTube video would actually be quite good. His great plays really, really look good. But after that video you look at his yearly averages for completion percentage, yardage, touchdowns, and virtually every other metric and it is meh as fug. Like you know Bryce is gonna be 13/23 for 157 yards a touchdown and probably a pick.  I will 100% give him his flowers for his athleticism and ability to scramble outside the pocket. I haven’t seen the mythical “super processing ability” he was touted for per se, but he has shown flashes of absolutely elite awareness when it comes to scrambling. The little basketball move he does to shake defensive linemen has almost become a signature move. It’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it he stops on a dime and pivots like he is gonna hit a step back jumper and it has gotten him out of a lot of trouble.  I sincerely, truly, as a vocal Bryce HATER, hope that since we are obviously running with him next year the coaching staff actually tailors plays around his strengths. He needs to be in a pure spread IMO. His size is much less of a hindrance when he can play QB in open space. I feel like most of his highlight reel is from scrambles and play action/bootlegs.
    • draft me at 19 a lean mean tackling machine
