Carolina Panthers - Potential cap casualties

Agreed. But, the cost to upgrade should be very small.

I am fine with upgrading on the cheap. I do not want to spend a day one or day two pick nor do I want to be in the Pitts FA sweepstakes.

Day 1 or Day 2 elite guy, 100% fine. Do I think that is reasonable based on the class? No.

He’s okay….but that’s still a pretty high cap number. He only had 2.5 sacks, and  was 35th in hurries. He’s good at batted passes at 3 which is 13th best but all his stats were basically down year over year. He’s still good at run defense, and I honestly think he’s a good locker room presence, and would be happy with a 1 year extension at a lower salary to level it out. I also would not be surprised if they decide they could use that 9.5 million to upgrade another position group, or use that money to help get a higher profile FA like a top tier LB, OLB, DE, or speed WR

We have more important holes to fill than to be dropping pick 19 on a TE, I would be upset.

If he's a game changer like Greg Olsen was for us it’s, a great idea. I'm with you though, I think the odds are much higher that we can get an impact LT, LB, or D-Line player that would fill a much larger hole than the three man rotation we have now in the TE room.

Olsen was with Chicago 3 or 4 years and took a while to bloom. I remember wishing we could get him at 25 n 2007 but we took Beason. Couldn’t complain about that.
I would really love to get a Jon Beason level ILB this draft.

I don't care about position. Give me BPA.

We have 4-5 other positions that could really use some 1st round talent.  I feel like there will be someone at 19 at one of those positions with talent comparable to Sadiq.
I am not gonna argue individuals really, I have done no research. Just philosophy. Address the holes unless it just isn’t close.

Evans is very cheap and arguably as good as Tremble. Sanders is a bust.

If Tremble is very cheap, no issue with a resigning. Still need an upgrade, though.

A 4th round pick is a bust...as a rookie I'm pretty sure he had more receiving yards for us versus any TE after Olsen, dealt with injuries this year and ended on IR with a broken ankle.

Bust is an exaggeration for a 2nd year guy that showed potential / flashes etc.

His rookie year is very comparable to Ian Thomas rookie year.

Both 300 yards with 1-2 TDs.

He might not be a outright bust, but he's JAG.

TE needs an upgrade. Ben Johnson obviously does Ben Johnson things, but Caleb Williams having Loveland was huge for them this year, not to mention the few Kmet games where he goes off.

But...where does that upgrade come from? How much money does Otton get on the open market, and is he worth it? Is Sadiq worth a 1st round pick when we have so many other needs?

Point being, I can't see us moving on from Tremble *unless* we sign Otton and don't see us drafting Sadiq in the 1st. I don't think Tremble is worth the 6 million number, but I think he's one of the "core" guys in the locker room that we'll eat the overpay to keep around this year.

Robinson would be the money-well-spent extension.

Tremble has been blessed with a cool name that's easy to remember and some decent ability. Sadly, that doesn't translate into second contract kind of money with a crowded and under producing TE room already.

Robinson needs to stay.  Tremble is the only reliable TE on the roster that I'd trust in a big moment.  He isn't great, but he's fairly reliable and I don't see him going anywhere unless they make a play for a big splash TE in free agency or draft one early.  Sanders has all the potential, but can't stay healthy and isn't the best blocker.

    • In 2025 Sam Darnold had over 1k more passing yards than Bryce Young on 1 less pass attempt. Repeat that to yourself several times and let it sink in. I absolutely love it when people come on here and invoke Sam Darnold like some gotcha. Darnold is the physical prototype for what anyone needs in a franchise QB. All the physical tools. Few people thought he would put it all together on the mental side of the position. He used to make some of the worst decisions you would ever see. At times in the past he made up for that with absurd throws and athleticism. But make no mistake whatsoever no matter how you feel about our starting QB. Bryce Young is a completely opposite conundrum. He lacks virtually any and all physical tools and athleticism and his elite processing is really mediocre at best on a good day and horrific on a bad day. These are realities people should have already been addressing instead of quadrupling down in year four.
    • The nice thing about the timing of Bryce's contract at least is that it's going to match up with the 2027 Draft Class. No excuses, he either becomes Rams 2nd half Bryce year long, or we draft his replacement.  Nothing wrong with carrying Bryce on his 5th year expiring and a 1st round rookie waiting in the wings. Let the rookie sit until the trade deadline, deal Bryce to a needy team at the time, profit.
    • Yeah they were bad QBs - but QB's that stayed on their teams for several years.  BY is better than all of those.
