Mike Jackson

Recommended Posts

So I was on reddit and came across a thread that stated he had almost identical stats to Josh Norman in '15. I don't think he's on Jno's level but he was def looking like the best corner on this team since Seattle imo. If he played a whole season with that momentum he'd be a first team All pro. And speaking of AP....bear w/ me.

Norman '15 (1st Team AP) vs Jackson '25 vs Horn '25 (100 mil (Pro Bowl):

4 ints vs 4 ints vs 5 ints

18 PBUs vs 19 PBUs vs 8 PBUs

56 tackles vs 68 tackles vs 37 tackles

3 FF vs 1 FF vs 0 FFs

Yards Allowed

513 vs 610 vs 289

Passer Rating:

58% vs 73% vs 78.8%

Targets:

58 vs 90 vs 48

Receptions Allowed

27 vs 50 vs 34

Coverage grade: **PFF

87.8 vs 80.9 vs 63.5

Final grade:... ***PFF

Norman: 83.7 (3rd highest rated corner)

Jackson: 81.7 (3rd highest in the league)

Horn: 59.4 (69th out of 114 corners)

All that said, do we extend Jackson at this current point betting he can replicate or do we wait until his contract year(next year)? Again mind you, Horn already took 100 Mill.

Or would you let guy walk and look for cheaper options?

I think you gotta let him walk after next year most likely.  He had a great season but I don't think he's someone you necessarily build around.

It would be foolish to let him walk. Horn had two concussions and has a history of injury. When you consider he was a terrible tackler before, you have to prepare for issues with him in the future. I would not be surprised if he misses multiple games again next season and actually gets worse with his tackling as he will NOT be looking to hit hard.

As good as Horn is, depending on him to consistently play is foolish at this point. Hell, another concussion and he may call it quits. Luke and Jewel did.

The thing with Norman is QBs pretty much stopped looking to throw to his side pretty early that season.

He was elite that season and neither of these guys are close to that level.

However Mike Jack is better than given credit for. I feel like Horn is over rated.

He head a great year, but he turns 30 next year.  He also played in a mostly zone scheme on the opposite side of the field from Horn.  I remember Evero mentioning he doesn't use Horn in man as much because he needs him to cover a large portion of the field while the others handle the rest.  As long as we have this much money tied up in Horn, I don't think you can spend too much on the other CB.  Hell I like what I saw from Thornton in his limited snaps.

Don’t know if it’s to that level yet but is definitely concerning. We have no word on how Horn is doing either.  Hard to be an optimist around that.

Seems like they become more frequent and pretty soon you are not long for the field of play.

    • Tomlinson was a dog. I think CMC is one of the best to ever play as a swiss army knife type of weapon. In terms of pure punishing bruising runner he cannot hold Tomlinson's jock. LT was a literal Ironman. 9 years with the Chargers never played less than 14 games in a season. Missed 3 games total. 12,490 yards. 138 touchdowns. That's an MVP candidate. Since 2020 CMC has missed 57 games. Fifty seven. You can't be the most valuable from the bench brother.
    • I never buy until that. The list of sub 5-10 NFL RB's is long.  He is bulky enough but I think he just habitually overtrains and he gets a ton of mileage. That's my theory.
    • They aren't truly better post trade.  Stafford was traded after the 2020 season.  Dan Campbell became head coach the next year, Ben Johnson elevated to OC the year after that.  That's why they were "better" post trade, until Johnson left.  With those two calling the shots, and Matthew Stafford, the Lions would have at least one Super Bowl this decade.  Also, Jamhyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta, Amon St Brown, Jameson Williams, and David Montgomery were all added post trade, which would've given Stafford more talent than he was ever surrounded by in Detroit.  With respect to Megatron.
