I’m happy for Sam. I wish we would have been smart enough to hang on to him and build around him.

He wouldn't be the same player he was now. He took a year off learning under Kyle Shannahan (who makes literally every QB that plays for him look good besides Trey Lance). Then he got to play with two stacked offenses and great coaching staffs

In a weird way I think we would've kept Frank Reich for another year if we kept Darnold, DJ Moore, and our draft picks. Hell maybe Reich isn't even hired in that situation and we kept Wilks or hired a different head coach.

I think keeping Darnold and DJ (and possibly CMC and Burns) would have helped stablize the franchise. But not sure if Darnold would have put us over the edge without the coaches and teams he got to play with after he left Carolina. IMO he would have been more like a bridge QB. Unless we got the right HC to bring these traits out of him.

Good lord. What you would have is, we would have a QB that could throw a dime 45 yards falling backwards, for a TD.

Chicago would have a huge need for more weapons to have any hope.
And they would not have Johnson to help, because he knows better than to hitch his wagon to Young. They would be having to settle for a Canales.

That throw was incredibly special.  But there isn't anyone alive who has ever played QB who thinks that was a smart or practical throw.  Go watch anyone's commentary on it, specifically Steve Young's.

You are swapping complete teams' situations, not just the QBs.  What I was saying is if Caleb was here this year with all things the same, and Bryce was in Chicago this year with all things the same, the results of their season would be the same.

But if you think Dave Canales is as good of a coach and play caller as Ben Johnson, PM your Zelle info and I'd like 10 cases of whatever you are drinking.

He inherited Russel Wilson's lucky rabbit foot on that throw, it wasn't skill it was 100% an non repeatable fluke.

I hate Stafford,  he seems like an entitled douche bag..

Correct. He and his wife are insufferable.

I'll root for Darnold before Stafford at this point. And that's saying something.

That is some real reaching. I am saying Johnson would avoid being tied to Young as his QB in the first place.
You want to line all the ducks up to prop up your fantastical projection. Which would not line up in reality.
What you are saying is equally as preposterous as the people insisting Bryce would have taken the Texans to the playoffs his rookie year. Same kind of fanning.

It really is hard to project that because also we would have still had Fitterer.
I don’t think we would have hired Wilks, and I say that as a Wilks advocate from that time. Tepper was determined to switch the focus to offense.

We might have turned out to be successful, with a good offensive coach onboard. And all those players and picks and FA budget. But we’d have still had Fitterer.

Whatever the outcome of the play ended up being, it was a feat. Off his back foot falling backwards. Wilson never ever had a prayer of making that exact throw.
He was like Bryce, needed forward momentum to chuck the ball that deep.
