Exactly, Tom went to Tampa and won another SB, Bill drove the pats off a cliff without him. Easy to see who was the talent. Hell, TB was riding the bench until Bledsoe got hurt and wins his first SB the same season! BB had no idea what he had.

Ummm, so who was the talent when Brady was winning with Bryce young stats at the first of his career? Their first playoff run, his only TD pass was in the S. Bowl and he threw for less than 150yds. They beat the Rams in his last S. Bowl win with New England and he didn't even throw a touchdown. He did throw a pick though. I don't know where this stupid narrative came from and I heartily dislike Belicheat, but you can't dismiss him. They had a system, Brady embraced it and was a giant piece, but he had a good coach and some good teams around him.

Paul Hornung bet on games as a player and still got in but Ricky Williams is shadowbanned for life over weed. Michael Irvin got in with a laundry list of misconduct. You've got guys in Canton with mediocre stats. Not going to cry for Belichick but it's been a farce.

I got interested here because of Ricky Williams. Does Ricky Williams even have a case for the HOF? I had never considered him as a candidate.

I looked it up.

He had one killer season. 1800+ rushing yards. Did break 1000 yards rushing I think 5 times. 4 times in his first 5 years, only once in the 6 years afterwards.
Pretty pedestrian numbers for season totals a few of those later years.

I say no he wouldn’t get in herb or no herb, but I learned something. I did not realize he played for 11 years (with one full year suspension sandwiched in there). I had him in my mind as like a 7 or eight year player.

There is a point there. I think it is also fair to recognize that Belichick failed to develop a successor. With ample time over all those seasons.
It reinforces the school of thought that a lot of the success is due to who your QB is. No matter how good a defensive mind you are.

I definitely hear you there. I think that also had a lot to do with the drop off in QB play across the league. It has gotten worse and worse due to college coaches not really preparing kids to play at the next level anymore. They are just doing what they need to do to get wins. Who would've thought Matt Stafford would have this resurgence? Teams are holding on to old QBs now . They would've been a playoff team in the Cam year if so many players hadn't foregone the season and Cam didn't get covid. Then they made the playoffs in Mackorkle's first year. Then the great fall off began and that was due to his GM resume. Belichick definitely didn't have the greatest track record as a GM.

Meanwhile we're over here holding onto Andy Dalton and his zero career playoff wins like our team culture depends on it.
