Has Hurney ever picked a bust in round 1?

A. Brown isn't a bust yet. 2. Goodson defiantly isn't a bust.

I was just making a point for the sake of argument, but I haven't really seen much improvement in Brown's game to think he will not be a bust whenever the mandatory "can't be labeled a bust quite yet" period has ended.

I hope I'm wrong though.

Maybe it was just me, but I thought Brown was coming on late in the season before his injury. Seemed to be a stretch of a few games there where he was playing well.

It is entirely possible that every play that I'm paying attention to #91 he is coincedentally spinning until he's knocked on his ass. I don't watch him every play so you may be right mav.

I'll be 100% honest with you, my eyes used to be fixed on #90 before and after every snap when we were on D. For the first time in damn near a decade I had to find a new focal point on defense, so now I mostly watch Beason. Often though in my peripheral vision I will see a guy with his back to the quarterback. I lol when it's Brown.

I think Brown will be better utilized in the new defense. He should be put at OLB in pass rush situations and used like a 3-4 edge rusher whenever possible. He'll never be an every down starter in a 4-3, IMO, but I do think he can be a great pass-rush specialist if McDermott can get creative and move him around to put him in the best position to get pressure on the QB.

he had 2.5 sacks in the last few games before his injury, or some number like that. something seemed to click before he got hurt... hopefully...

He's been good in the first and he has also been good at the top of the first: Peppers (2nd) and Gross (8th). I'm worried about a lot of things with this team, but I have confidence in Hurney to get this pick right. I also think the team's drafting in the rounds after the first has gotten a lot better since Softli left.

You can't just pin someone down to picks in a certain round. You have to look at the draft in whole. Only difference is you can't miss in the 1st and 2nd round. We are currently paying for the Brown and Edwards pick. However, we have done really well in the past grabbing guys like Steve Smith late. All in all we typically draft very well with the occasional miss. Reality is you really build your team by finding the diamonds in the ruff in the later rounds. That is where the teams like the Patriots, Steelers, and Packers constantly amaze me. And this is why they dominate year after year.

    • Over previous years? Sure is 😆
    • An odd little vibe I've noticed here of late: some folks are "all or nothing" to an absolutely extreme level when it comes to Bryce. Here's a bit of truth telling though: There are, in fact, things Bryce does well. Likewise, there are areas in which he's improved over his time here. He has, on several occasions now, legitimately helped us win games. On the flipside, there have been failures in other areas as well as coaching that we're not in any way his fault.  And finally , it is also genuinely possible that the team may see him as the future, even if we don't. The craziest part, though? It's actually possible that they're right and we're wrong. All of this is true, and more, yet if you accept any of these premises people go from zero to apesh-t in under three seconds 😳 Anything less than total disavowal of Bryce and / or agreement that he's the worst QB of all time and suddenly you're a "stan". Oy 🙄 The reality though?  Bryce is indeed an NFL quarterback. Not a great one, probably backup level good, and I've seen way worse. Now, if you run that statement through your personal Google translator and it comes back with some version of "I want to throw 50 million a year at Bryce for the next 10 years", that's not really my issue it's yours  I don't wanna make him the franchise quarterback, but it's not my call. Win or lose, the team is going to do what they think is best. And as always, if it disagrees with what I think we should do, I'm gonna hope I'm the one who's wrong. Internet clout means nothing. Watching my favorite team win at my favorite sport meas fun 😁
