Is tackle out the window at 19?

Not at all you got a day one starter and Nick squirting in the second round last year so how's the top 19 player a frig starter? I think rounds one and two you're looking at opening day starters potentially

'Looking for' and getting are two different things.  Most scouts would tell you once you get past the mid-point in the first round, in a typical year, you have past the threshold of sure-fire starters.  At that point you are hoping for a day1 starter, but in reality that guy isn't quite ready yet.  He's a heir apparent with training wheels for a season.  There's nothing wrong with that.  That's why LT absolutely should not be off the table at #19.  We got one guy with a possible career ending injury and a rent-a-tackle for a season.  Solid reasoning for glossing over the second most important position on a NFL team.

I told y'all Lomu would overtake Proctor.  Freeling jumped over both of them and will be the second OT taken, even over Fano who some teams are projecting as an OG.  Freeling will be gone to the most needy LT team after Mauigoa gets drafted; somewhere in the early teens.  That leaves the guy who I've been saying for a couple months is best fit for us, Lomu.

I've been on the Lomu bandwagon too. Best pure LT in the class.

Y'all are acting like Walker is a All-Pro on a 4 year deal.  He's a rent-a-tackle on a one-year deal that got past over in FA until we snagged him.  There are worse things than having a $4M back up left tackle if he gets beat out.  Even if he doesn't get beat out by a hypothetical LT rookie, at least said rookie wouldn't get thrown to the wolves and can be eased into the League. Walker also has a injury history.  Who says he stays healthy all season?

Agree.  Tackle is a huge long term need and we put a bandaid on it for this year.  Moton or Walker goes down and we are in trouble. I don't think we pass on Mauigoa, Fano, or Freeling at 19, but I bet none are there anyway, which would free us up to go safety, ILB, or defensive end.  I think the WR/TE talk is hoping for a trade back.  Remember, we b.s.'ed the draft w/ the no. 8 Tet pick last year.

Proctor is gonna be a love/hate prospect and even his lovers will likely admit that the bust factor is high. You gotta want a giant mauler of an OT to love him and even if you want a giant mauler OT you're still concerned if he's going to have the movement skills in space to handle NFL speed rushers. Honestly, I think he's gonna bust.

I don't see the lateral quickness there to handle speed rushers. He could surprise, but I am very suspect of Bama players at certain positions. Top draft classes every year playing against inferior talent. The gap closes too much when they reach the NFL.

Same. I think NFL speed rushers are gonna eat his lunch. And yeah, pretty much everyone that starts on the OL at Bama is at minimum gonna get a chance to play in the NFL. The overall unit is going to be one of the best on the country at the college level every year.

I suspect he'll get an opportunity at tackle and end up getting pushed inside to guard. That much weight it's just hard on your knees constantly having to go side to side and plant and leverage. Kind of reminds me of Mekhi Bechton. Huge guy, 360 lbs, knee injuries, and I'm sure his weight played a part in them. Just a risk I wouldn't want to take at 19.
