I think people were whining because we saw a 2-14 team, while the office didn't. Mixed with a complete refusal to sign any worth FA's or experience on the field. Going young was a good idea, but don't be naive, going young was a blanket term for last year. There were other motives.

yeah, i keep seeing these comparisons, but the bears defense would have been significantly worse w/johnson instead of peppers. letting peppers go made sense b/c we were going into rebuilding not b/c charles johnson is anywhere near as good as peppers

Speaking of this trade J Williams only tallied 2 tackles and only played in 3 games. Sounds like a lousy trade to me. But I guess he's depth.

Carolina didn't tender Williams... he'll be a UFA, CBA pending.

It was a lousy trade. Harris had a better year than Martin and was a team leader. Give me 4 interceptions over 15 tackles any day. I understand the value of getting Martin some playing time and Harris IS on the back end of his career, but it was still a lousy trade.

I don't care what Godfrey or Martin did, we traded for Jamar Williams who notched a whopping 2 tackles before ending up on IR. So far it looks like a bad trade.

I know a bunch of people (including myself), were up in arms when the Panthers traded Harris to the Bears. I looked up the stats this morning from 2010 and figured I would share:

Chris Harris - age 28, 7 yrs. in NFL

2010 - 70 tackles, 5 interceptions

Charles Godfrey - age 25, 4 yrs. in NFL

2010 - 84 tackles, 5 interceptions

Sherrod Martin - age 26, 3 yrs. in NFL

2010 - 85 tackles, 1 int.

On paper it appears that we got more production, for less money, and younger legs. Just thought it was interesting.

To actually make this argument you need more than tackles and interceptions. Pass deflections and force fumbles would lead to a clearer picture.

Martin had 3 forced fumbles, Godrey 1, and Harris 0. The Huddle cracks me up. I honestly believe the majority of the posters would rather us be lousy so they can complain and blame JR for everything.

Wait, is this a serious thread? Chris Harris was selected as an All-Pro safety and was integral to the Bears run to the NFC Championship Game. Jamar Williams was an injured 6th-string linebacker. It was one of the most lobsided trades in the history of the team.

I hope jtm had just suffered a concussion when he posted this thread.

Getting rid of Harris was a roster dump to save $ and to go younger. The numbers don't lie - Harris had less tackles and less forced fumbles and is at the end of his career.

Anyone who thinks the stats are the telling issue regarding Harris versus Godrey really don't get it. They are the same people patting themselves on the back while they noted that Charles Johnson had a better year than Peppers.

Look I am all for Johnson and see him as the best defensive end we have by far, but he is no Julius Peppers. Guys like Peppers change the way you attack the defense, they are game changers.

Harris was the quarterback of the secondary. It just wasn't what he could do but how he made other guys better. He was a leader and someone who didn't like what the FO did and paid the price. You could see it whenever he came into the game. The defensive secondary played tougher and he could lay the lumber. Harris was smart and would make sure everyone was where they need to be. Lets be honest, Godfrey many times is out of position himself let alone able tell everyone else where to play. People who look at the defense and don't see anything different between 2010 versus 2009.,don't see the obvious. The difference wasn't the scheme but the personnel and experience. Guys like Peppers and Harris we couldn't replace. Godfrey is learning but he is no Chris Harris.

Of course the FO was way off in their estimation of how well or how badly many of the replacements would play compared to the vets they replaced,. But that is history.

My favorite Chris Harris moment is still when he met Bandon Jacobs one-on-one at the goal line at the end of 08 and stopped him in his tracks (both guys went sideways, no TD). Of course, the Giants eventually scored on the next or the 3rd play, but still, Chris Harris is the MFin man.

Well, I watched all of his highlight videos and in none of them did he get burned.

It's called a highlight for a reason. It doesn't show the bad plays if it did it wouldn't be called a "highlight" video
