Denver Post on Cam and AJ

Ja Rhule

Recommended Posts

The Denver Post's Mike Klis is "hearing" that Georgia WR A.J. Green has joined Cam Newton as a candidate to go No. 1 overall to the Panthers.

Carolina has already been reported as "enamored" with Green, so this hardly comes as shocking news. On the other hand, the Denver Post acknowledges that the Panthers' actions indicate they have "created the most expensive, time-consuming smoke screen in recent draft history" if Newton isn't the pick.

So it's all down to Cam vs. AJ.

Also, from rotoworld:

Steve Smith says he only decided to put his house up for sale when his wife became pregnant.

The house has been listed since June, and in this economy it's no surprise it hasn't sold. He'd already dropped the price from $2.9 million to $2.3 million. Reports of Smith's home sale sparked speculation that he was planning to play elsewhere in 2011. The 32-year-old could still be sent packing if the Panthers find a viable trade offer, probably after the draft.

The words "trading down", and "Panthers drafting AJ green" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. Believing he'll still be there in such event is a dream at best.

How many wins did Palmer manage to get throwing to Chad and Owens? Yet he's going to win here throwing to Green...

I do not understand why anyone believes Palmer would help us. How much does he have left? What are we going to do when he's done, get another end of the road QB for a 1-2 year lease?

I'm with you. I don't understand the infatuation with Palmer.

AJ Green is the pick only if the Panther trade down w/ the Bengals and get Palmer in the deal.....

They say that cannot happen until the CBA is in place, but let me help you out with a theory of mine that I have not thought through yet. What if Cincinnati trades with us, moving from #4 to #1. They do so for their first round pick in 2012, with the understanding that, after a CBA is in place, they trade the pick back to Cincinnati for Palmer, pending reworking his contract and passing a physical.

Not saying I would do this, but I wonder....

Not to mention Palmer is not a leader and lacks toughness. Anyone who's under contract to make 11 mill next year and would rather "retire" (aka QUIT) than play football is not someone I would make the face of my business.

    • So Willis had a good game against a poor defense and all of a sudden he is worth 50 million and is guaranteed to be better than Young. LOL I know he looked good in the 3 games he started, and I think he will have success long term, but anyone signing him up for a long term contract for 50 million is taking a huge risk.
    • Is he really though? Rivera was past his prime and probably shouldn't have even started 2019 so his firing wasn't really unexpected or unwarranted. Rhule lasted two and a half years which was about one year too long in my opinion. Bringing him back that third year certainly wasn't impulsive and I would say Tepper was more patient than he should have been. Wilks finished out that third season and did pretty good but most everyone could see he really wasn't anything more than an intern HC. Bringing him back was not the long term answer so not bringing him back was the correct call. Hiring Reich was a mistake from the beginning and he recognized that fairly quickly. I am sure he knew he was going to catch a lot of sh*t for firing him so quickly ( and boy did he ) but it was absolutely the right thing to do given everything that was going on. The firing may have looked impulsive, but I think it was him recognizing he had royally f*ck up and just dealt with it instead of letting it fester.  That brings us to Canales. 2025 was only his second season and yet he delivered 8 wins and the NFC South title. And while that might not sound great, given the lack of talent and cap space they started with, it's a strong step in the right direction. I couldn't imagine Tepper not being pleased with their progress given the crap the Panthers' have been though under his ownership.
