If We Draft Cam, Should He Sit A Year

Are you seriously comparing Newton's football knowledge to any of the QBs above? Really? Cam Newton is ready for the NFL physically, but no where near ready mentally.
prove he isn't on the same level and isn't capable of achieving the same level of success.

"prove it" = desperation tactic

right on.

Cam better start relatively soon and he better be successful too, at least at proving a future is there, if you all want him #1 overall we should hold him to the standards. All other #1 QBs started almost instantly. #1 is too much of an investment for anything different.

I know the argument that QB's picked that high need to start day 1. But if they are gonna roll the dice on Cam, then they need to put him in the best possible position to suceed and I don't think thats him starting day 1, give him time to develop.

I would rather him sit alittle longer than he needs to than put him in there to early. To my knowledge no QB has been hurt by setting them, but you can make the argument that many have been hurt by starting them to early.

Rivera made it clear in his first press conference that he thinks a QB should sit and learn for 3 years. While that won't happen with Newton if he is the pick, I doubt very much that Rivera will throw him out there when the season starts. He will likely to have a few plays to run in certain situations the first year. Newton will earn the starting job when he is ready, but not year 1. IMO.

I thought a the first pick in the draft was supposed to be a instant impact player. Start him.

It is, but Cam isn't

Not sure how anyone can argue otherwise. You want the Panthers to draft, number 1 overall, a QB that has:

1) Had a questionable college career everywhere he has gone

2) Has only thrown a total of 289 passes

Folks, this is a QB league. A league where the QB MUST be able to throw the ball. Now, I agree we don't have one on the roster at this moment but how can ANYONE say that he is worthy of the number one pick in a league where he must throw and he has only done so 289 times?

Not only that, did you watch the combine and see him throw? Not terrible but definitely not the best in the bunch of THIS year’s mediocre bunch of QB's

What has everyone obsessed with him?

I would just like someone to explain this to me…I have read all the threads on here and pretty much what I see is; we hate everyone on our roster, it can’t get worse…let me explain to you that it very much can. We have holes in other areas of the field that have players in THIS draft that can have a positive impact now!

Get a vet QB in here, develop the young WR we have and draft someone that can help us with the upcoming season!

    • Panthers sign OT Rasheed Walker Terms: One year, up to $10 million Grade: A The price of this deal might be the most shocking of free agency thus far. Walker was widely considered the best free agent tackle this year and was expected to receive a large contract. But his market developed very slowly, so he has signed a one-year deal with a maximum value of $10 million -- meaning the base value is below that -- per NFL Network. For context, my free agency contract model projected a deal averaging $21.8 million for Walker. Instead, it's a short-term commitment for less than half that. And the Panthers are the beneficiaries. Carolina entered this offseason with a possible need at left tackle after Ikem Ekwonu suffered a patellar tendon rupture in the playoffs that put his 2026 season in question. It's also the last year of his contract. The Panthers signed Stone Forsythe as an insurance plan already in free agency, but once Walker's market fell it seemed like they felt adding him was well worth it, too. Our win rate metrics consider Walker to be a solid player. Last season in Green Bay, he was in the 85th percentile among tackles in pass block win rate, though only 22nd percentile in run block win rate. He was in the 69th percentile and 48th percentile in those two metrics in 2024, respectively. Given that Dan Moore Jr. received $20.5 million per year from the Titans last year most -- myself included -- thought Walker would walk away with more than that. Perhaps the struggles of Moore (who wasn't great last season) contributed to Walker's market being cooler than expected, a theory that ESPN's Jeremy Fowler suggested. Walker was also arrested two months ago at LaGuardia Airport in New York for allegedly trying to check-in with a firearm that he had a license for in Wisconsin but not New York. Either way, teams felt differently about Walker than most on the outside thought. But he's a heck of an add for the Panthers at this price. While his run-game contributions might be far from perfect, a weak pass protector at tackle can sink a passing game. Even if this is only a one-year arrangement, Walker should be able to help keep Bryce Young upright
    • Fantastic signing. If he is good, this will make next offseason really interesting. I would imagine that Morgan would try to extend Walker and convince Ikey to move to the right side to replace Moton. This also opens up options at 19 at lot instead of forcing a tackle. I'm not a fan, but I'm definitely more open to Morgen drafting Sadiq now, but there is also Peter Woods, and even some like Dillon Thieneman is now in the mix. Hell, I'm still for another off ball LB.
    • sure, but Panthers are theoretically in their win now window. Their first rounder needs to be a day one starter
