Colinsworth thinks there will be no football until November

NBC’s Cris Collinsworth dropped a bombshell last week on his Twitter page and at his website, FootballPros.com, predicting that the NFL’s regular season won’t begin until November.

The thinking is that the Eighth Circuit will conclude that the lockout should remain in place, that negotiations will get serious after Week One is missed (and the NFL and its players incur the wrath of the fans and the media by not playing on the 10th anniversary of 9/11), a deal is reached within a month, camps open in early October, a single-game preseason is played, and the real thing starts in November.

If this is the case, I've seriously lost faith in these jerks who can't decide who to split that much money.

The NFL will never be the same if there is no football to November. I think if it lasts that long, I won't even bother to watch the season.

The players' compensation structure needs to get under control quick. Really, I don't mind having to wait until November if that means that a reasonable CBA is reached and I can still afford to go to a football game in the coming years.

I mind. They still will have to cram everything together and teams won't have the type of presason prep they need......and that will drastically effect teams like Carolina. So a Panther fan is left paying full price for a half assed product.

Teams w/ a coaching staff, playbook, etc. in place for years wouldn't be as heavily effected. Giving them a bigger advantage.

...something we've tragically gotten used to doing

NEVER is a bit dramatic. If this happens then the 2011 season will be cheapened but after that it'll be back to normal.

If the lockout goes late into the season, then I think there's a chance Cam Newton will never see the field (this season). We still have to sign all of our rookies once the lockout finally ends and with Cam being the #1 pick I can see his contract taking quite a while. Not to mention there's no way I'd want him starting that late in the season with very limited practice with the team.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
