Spoke to my friend today for the first time since the draft and this is what he had to say:

Richardson is not convinced Steve Smith will be gone next season. The sense from people within the organization is that Smith has cooled off since last season and due to his very close relationship with Richardson there is a good chance he will be back next season.

At least one D-Lineman will be picked up this offseason and the name that keeps getting thrown out there is Cofield.

Matt Moore's name will not go away and if Newton bombs it during training camp and work outs, there is a much better chance of Matt Moore starting week 1 then Jimmy Clausen. The Panthers really like Moore still but would not be surprised if he is starting week 1 for the Dolphins. I was told there are some people from the Cowboys who are now with the Dolphins who signed Moore as an undrafted free agent.

I repeat once again Williams, Johnson, and Davis will be back next year and most likely Anderson as long as no one offers him anything crazy.

No chance the Panthers sign Aso or Burress

Despite what has been reported DeAngelo Williams has shown up to at least a few of the private work outs with the team.

Chris Gamble will not be cut despite speculation.

They want to cut Tyler Brayton but they feel they need some leadership with a relatively young core on the line.

The coaching staff has heard nothing but great things about Travelle Wharton and love his leadership and there is no chance he is going anywhere. (I read a thread that talked about Wharton and maybe him being cut)

Steve Smith wanted a chance to play with an elite QB for the last couple years he had left and he wasn't seeing that spark in either Moore or Clausen for some reason. Had the Panthers not drafted Cam Newton the trade rumors would be rampant.

Yup no problem I am more then happy to help. I know this offseason has been awful and boring with the lockout so hopefully this makes it a little bit more bearable. I am actually flying down to Charlotte tomorrow just to see some old friends and then will be there for business Monday-Wednesday and plan on meeting him for dinner. So if anyone has anything they want to know just write it here and I will make sure to ask.

You do not need to believe me but I said the day before Brandon Hogan was picked that the Panthers were very interested in a player with character concerns and do not be surprised if they choose someone who they normally would not pick. The first pick of the next day the Panthers chose Brandon Hogan.

I said months ago that Matt Moore could be back when everyone was writing him off.

"Panthers coach Ron Rivera suggested Friday that free agent Matt Moore may still be a part of the team's 2011 plans.Rivera said Moore "can get involved in our QB situation," along with Jimmy Clausen and No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton."

I also said I was told months ago that Steve Smith is no definitly gone and he has recently made himself more available to the media and sounds like there is a chance he could be back.

But hey why argue?

    • Actually that 4400 was based on a 16 game season to match Bryce's 16 games this year. Your offense has to be to drive the ball when it matters. Bryce doesn't do that with any level of consistency. If you're building a team that isn't focused on your QB, then fine. Then there's no need to pay Bryce as a franchise QB because literally anyone else will do. If you're going to pay him 50m plus per season, you have to be able to put the team on his shoulders and know he's going to carry the load. So far, when the pressure is on to get it done, Bryce has fallen miserably short of the target. 4-6 to finish out the season and 0-2 when all we need is a win to secure a playoff spot isn't stepping up and proving yourself as a franchise QB. I'd say it's quite the opposite.  There isn't a single coach in this league that would take Bryce over Burrow and very few if any that would take Bryce over Prescott. Hurts didn't have to throw in 2025 because Philly's defense was disgusting and Saquan had a MVP season. But then again, Hurts has shown that he can when it counts, and then there's his signature. Philly runs the tush push to lethal perfection, but that's a play we can't even consider with Bryce. You used 3 QBs from teams that had no defense to show QB stats don't always matter. When we had the worst defense in the NFL, we didn't see Bryce step up and carry the offense and put up gaudy numbers in a losing season because we were playing catch up. It was pretty much the opposite.  What have we seen from Bryce consistently to consider offering him a top 10 NFL franchise QB level contract? At the end of the day, that's all that matters.
    • I mean, what fanbase has high expectations when you have a QB like Bryce leading your team?
    • If you pay Bryce $50M a year you greatly limit your ability to put the type of team around him you need to have to have a chance to win. THAT is the problem. Hell, we can't win with him on a rookie contract. How the hell are we supposed to start winning with him paying him like a franchise QB and having to make tough roster decisions to accommodate his cap hit?
