Kasay is NOT retiring, has NOT been cut

Seriously I think this was as much a move to save a roster spot as it was to clear out a guy that could have divided team loyalties. Kasay was a definite leader of the team. The new coaching staff could have been worried having a guy that was closely tied to the previous regime could have caused some locker room issues. Probably the most influential kicker on any team.

I highly doubt that man. Kasay is a team player. If that's Rivera's reasoning then he should be slapped.

If you're upset Kasay was cut because you think he still has it, that's one thing.

But if you're upset he got cut because he's the last original Panther, put your head in the oven immediately.

and so what if i think both?

guess i could put yours in..?:mad5:

Kasay is the kind of man ya want your kids to grow up to be.

He is the last remaining original Panther.

Does that mean we need to keep him even when he can't kick field goals?

He's not there now, but it is a good time to move on.

Kasay, you have my respect. I wish you nothing but the best.

Maybe when you retire, you'll do so as a Panther, and there will be a 3rd statue.

I still think it's a crap cut. And Kasay being the last original panther is a big deal. Especially letting him go when he can still play. There will no doubt be instances this season when we will wish we had Kasay. This team is going to be competitive this year. Three points or less will win us football games. I can feel in my bones.

then it's a good thing that we have someone just as good (actually better over the past 3 years).

"But why Mare of all people??"

Mare is a very good kicker. Yes, we could sign Joe McUndrafted from Booker T Washington Technical College but then we run the risk of having a guy who can kick a mile into the wind, but only at 45 degree angles.

"lol he's old"

Kickers work in reverse dog years. At 38, provided he doesn't get injured, he still could run through the length of his contract easily.

"He's paid too much"

There are other kickers making more. He's getting paid top 5 kicker money because.. he's a good kicker.

Why didn't we draft someone??

We'll either do that or trade for/sign someone young/proven within 2 or 3 years, provided Mare doesn't collapse. This gives us time to find the right long-term guy, frees up a roster spot and we get an accurate FG kicker who could kick touchbacks BEFORE the rule change.

    • But are they cheap and high quality?   I'll see myself out.
    • Fully expect Lloyd's deal to look similar in structure to Phillips deal.
    • That 20m injury is guaranteed for all intents and purposes as it hits next off-season for 2028 salary. If he's on the roster for 2027, he gets the extra 20m of salary guarantees for the 2028 season.  Considering his dead cap for 2027 is 50m, he'll be on the roster to get the full guarantee switch.    Otherwise the guaranteed money is in 2026 and 2027 salary plus signing bonus.  Can be cut with cap savings after 3 years to what essentially could be a 3 year 81m dollar deal. (He's got a cap hit of 38.75m in 2027 and 2028.)
