Great read on Cam and Fan Fest

“Being under Coach Chudzinski, for the time I’ve been under him he’s an open-minded coach,” Cam said when asked about parts of the read option offense being in the Panthers’ playbook. “He’s always willing to learn and put in new things that makes everybody excited. He’s willing to capitalize on my strong points of the game.”

Exciting to think of the possibilities!

Great write up and great interview by Cam. Seems like he understands what he has to work on and it seems like he is taking the strides to get there as quickly as he can. I love it.

Every day, my expectations get raised a little higher. Why can't tomorrow be the 13th?

“It’s easy right now because I have this red jersey on,” Newton said. “As soon as all the jersey colors are the same, it’s going to be harsh out there.”

.

.

.

“There’s no facade; we have weapons on this team, and all our weapons help each other out,” said Newton. “We’ve got Steve Smith on the outside, and he opens it up for Shockey and Olsen. And with any potent running game, that’s going to open it up for anything else. We have to be able to manage the game first off; Jonathan and DeAngelo do an excellent job, running hard, down hill football. Of course that’s going to open up passing lanes in the defense, allowing the offense to get big chunks down the field.

“I was telling Steve (Smith), I’ve got the easy job — I just call the play. I step to the line, I throw it and you guys are there. And Shockey and Olsen, they make everybody’s job easy when they attack the ball in the air, and they have that mindset that when that ball is in the air, it’s mine.”

i'm thinking he's getting it.

i love that he's going to be trusting his receivers to be where they are supposed to be. something he did at auburn with less talented receivers. i don't think that clausen has gotten to that point.

He certainly gives a good interview. Weather scared me off of Fan Fest today but looking forward to seeing him get some on the field time in preseason and see if he can live up to the promise.

Unreal to me that he could be more charismatic than Delhomme was - for all the negative about his play near the end he was super super charismatic every time I ever met him.

Writer says Cam has an unreal charisma, moreso than Delhomme. That's hard to imagine, but he'll be a hit in the lockerroom and that alone will do wonders.

It is balance. You can have all the charisma in the world, and suck on the field and it doesn't matter. You can have Payton Manning talent, but if you are a dick on and off the field, your team won't perform for you so it doesn't matter.

It is about the balance between the two. Now I grant you Cam is saying the right things and seems to be doing the right things so we will see. He still has a very long way to go on the field and I hope he lives up to the talent.

Brad's a good writer. He and I were mods together on the official Panthers board (a lifetime ago).

That week sucked. Swarmed/trolled by Pats fans for a week, barely lose the superbowl then lose the forum right after.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
