I understand your point about Sanders have injury issues his entire career vs. Davis late......I am just saying w/ the types of injury Davis has had in consecutive years now he is now safer a gamble IMO.

I wouldn't call blowing out your same knee once you get back on the field......2 freak injuries. Maybe if he had torn something completely different I would.

i am not against betting on his talent....but it was a gamble is my point and people can argue from a business standpoint they could of waited a year or into the year before placing a bet.

I agree one valid option could have been to wait..

but there are politics/relationships/call them whatever that Hurney must keep in balance, and a GM MUST error in favor of that from time to time to ensure a player of TD's caliber feels loyalty to us when he returns from the last 2 seasons..

you must make a bet like this from time to time, you can't skirt the edges on white/black views in every single circumstance.. you will error just the same when trying to play every card to perfection..

these bets will arise, and if TD falls flat on his face, it will not harm our cap number or season despite how much we paid him in 1 year..

We will just have to wait and see how he performs. My objective, non-homer opinion says that he has a roughly 25% chance of returning to the player that he was, a 25% chance of being healthy but no longer an impact player, and a 50% chance of washing out of the league either due to injury or lost physical skills. With those odds, I wouldn't bet 8 mil on him.

if those odds weren't a perfect illustration of your view on everything, I'd give more credence to your opinion..

My point is that Davis' cap number this year was roughly 3 mil on his old deal. Now he has an 8 mil number for this year. That 5 mil could have been used on a good CB or DT. If Davis had a great year, so be it. He would have been a 29 year old LB with a history of knee injuries entering FA next year. .

Your understanding of the situation in failing you. I suggest you go back an d read the article about his contract. Davis does not have an 8 million cap hit this year. The signing bonus is prorated in regards to cap hits over the life of the contract despite the money actually being payed up front. By restructuring his contract they actually lowered his cap hit for this year by almost a million. So no this didn't prevent them from signing anyone it actually helped them to have more money to spend in FA.

How is this not clear? Floppin cannot be any clearer.

Some people still do not understand the difference in cash spent in a year and the Cap hit for that year.

It is not rocket science.

Wow, this thread is beyond retarded. People making assumptions about what someone else may or may not do in a given situation, and stating it as fact. Then not understanding how the salary cap works, and bitching about wrong figures. This threads makes me lol.

But to the point, glad TD's foot is OK. He is a major talent at LB and we are lucky to have him. Yes it is a gamble to give him a contract extension, but the gamble is worth it as long as he passed the physicals and does not get injured again.

That is really all I am going to say on this topic, because I do not feel like arguing over something that is completely beyond my (or any one else's) control.
