Cam's throw to Shockey was amazing!!

Throwing the ball down field, falling down with defenders hanging on to you is not a good decision. Granted, he got enough heat on it that the DB couldn't jump the pass. Shockey did a good job shielding the DB too.

Personally, I don't want Cam taking the sack when he has a player like Shockey in one on one coverage on the sideline. Not when your QB has Cam Newton's skill set......

like I said, I could agree if the play set up differently.....and Shockey wasn't one on one going to the sideline. Got no problem w/ calculated gambles.....those are different than dumb throws.

There will be a dozen times in every NFL game where the QB has to make a difficult throw, off balance, falling down, leaning back or otherwise under series pressure and duress.

That's one of Cam's best abilities. He's got the size and arm strength to pull it off. Remember the Bengals game where a defender practically had him by the arm in mid pass and Cam still was able to muscle through the throw.

I can't tell you how many time I've seen Big Ben do almost the exact same thing. You're going to see Cam doing a lot of things that are a little bit unconventional. Things that other people can't do. That's because there's not that many 6'4" 250lb quarterbacks who can move like him. Get used to him breaking a lot of the normal rules that apply to mere mortal quarterbacks.

Cam made an even more incredible pass last year against Kentucky. Cam rolled out to the right and the KY's rush was all over him. He neared the sideline and instead of just running OB, he leaped in the air, was sailing over the OB line and let a sidearm throw go from about 3 yards OB, down field 20 yards and it was caught by Kodi Burns. It was one of the most hard to believe your eyes plays I have ever seen. If you can find the video, you should watch it. It will leave you shaking your head.

Maybe your name should be "Captain Clueless" if all that matters to you is the outcome. If it has to be a "completion" or have resulted in a penalty that moves the chains in order for you to consider it to be a good play, then you're clueless. A bad play can move the chains, or result in a TD, because it's not the result that determines whether a play was smart or not, which is why many teams and players have played poorly, still won, and then self-destructed when it mattered...because they were never really making "good plays" just because the "outcome" was good. If this play was bad, it's only because it wasn't a smart play. Most of the time, passes like that aren't going to end up anywhere near the receiver, or worse, get picked, therefore, it was a bad play, not because it was "incomplete", but because it's an unreliable play. The TD pass to Shockey was a worse throw than the one when he was falling down because Shockey shouldn't have had to jump on a pass from that close, but it was a better play because it was high percentage, not because it "resulted in" a TD.

So you agree with me but call me clueless. smh

aside from what if's.. that was an impressive test of arm strength. curious who in the league would have had that velocity. not many.

Vick, Cutler, Big Ben, Rodgers, Stafford......probably all could make it off balanced like that. Some probably have the arm not sure they are athletic enough to make under those conditions.

He should taken the sack man, what if that ball would have been picked off. Honestly he's been getting lucky to not have been picked off all preseason. I just hope he doesn't do that again.

Although I have to admit, that throw was impressive. Also, that was clearly pass interference.

like it or not, he's a gunslinger. he's going to be doing a lot of that kind of thing and much of the time it's going to look ugly and sometimes it will result in an INT, but more often than not, it's that kind of thing that is going to result in big plays for us.

i don't want him playing scared. i don't want him to throw a lot of INTs, but i also don't want him to be timid. we need someone that is going to be bold like that.

as time goes on, you are going to be seeing more comparisons to bret favre and for good reasons. the personalities are very similar as players.

Cam is like a combo of Favre, Big Ben, and Vick. Media only likes to look at 1st round black QBs however when talking of him.....

I think they can make the pass, I agree.. the point I was making is it appears he has 1 of the top 3 strongest arms in the league..
