This is the kind of crap from writers that infuriates me

If Auburn quarterback Cam Newton did not have enough critics, then his recent comments to Sports Illustrated writer Peter King promises to deliver more.

During a recent phone interview, Cam Newton told King that he sees himself as more than a mere, mortal football player.

Newton: “I see myself not only as a football player, but an entertainer and icon.”

Ok, so he's been playing light's out football, he's entertaining as hell to watch play, and is slowly and surely setting himself with his play to be an icon. So, what's the problem then?

Keep in mind, I was one of the guys who was hoping we'd draft Luck this past draft for months before he announced he was staying at Stanford. Cam has won me over... he's shown more promise in two games than any quarterback we've had since Beurlein (not comparing the two, just showing timeframes), and he's doing it with a lock-out summer, a new coaching staff in place, a pooty OLine performance leading to zero help from the ground game, and is taking in the NFL in stride.

Again, what part of what he said is he not doing?? I couldn't care less if my QB states he's Superman and God's gift to the world of football, as long as he backs it all up. In this case, Cam HAS so far... and I have a good feeling he will continue to do so. No, we don't have a win yet, but it's a team game, and the team has not won yet. Cam has not been the problem... sure he had rookie interceptions against the world champs, but you expect that from a rookie. He will get better, he will win games, and we will all enjoy riding his "entertainer" coattails to the Superbowl one day. Just give them time...

cam newton is a celebrity. doesn't mean he's an attention ***** of some kind, just that he is a well known public figure. some people seek out to be a celebrity, some people are sought out and become that.

he's a known celebrity QB. kind of a redundant statement. how many unknown celebrities are there?

at any rate...not much to get worked up over.

oh...in regarded to that peter king icon/entertainer comment, i'll refer you to this from a thread a couple months back:

Cam ignored Peter King today at camp.

King tweeted:

Why would Cam do this ?

Well for 1 Cam has been known to stay away from media.

Apparently this was a thing at Auburn.

But there is more to the story.

ExcellentLinkHereClickBitches

Lets break down the

The guys at KissingSuzykolber.com do such a good job breaking it down I will just quote them.

Hope this helps your hate.

:sifone:

btw...the bold is comments actually made by peter king when he tried to explain in MMQB the situation surrounding that comments and the context and his thoughts in tweeting it.

It's good he sees himself like that. He understands the gravity of his situation and never went out and got tatted up. He keeps a clean image because he understands he is more than just an athlete to young people.

context didn't change my opinion of the quote - I didn't like it at all.

That being said, I didn't expect that King would be too stubborn to admit that he probably should have at least provided some context. I think he is right that the quote, regardless of context, is not so good. I also think he's right that the rest of the media would have ran with just that quote, regardless of what else was said, considering what was going on at that time.

I got that it was a phone interview, and so I expected the question related somehow to how he saw himself outside of football. So context didn't change it much. I suppose if there were people out there that thought he called up Peter King to announce that he was more than just a football player or some stupid poo, context would have helped them quite a bit.

Ultimately though I'm glad the Panthers didn't care much about that quote, cause he certainly seems like the right pick now :)

I tried to warn ya'll in my narcissistic class.....but you don't wanna learn;). You guys are going to waste your time trying to defend Cam. This is just the beginning. Mark my words. Or his...your choice.

Netwon: "It was between Mississipii State and Auburn, but as a whole Auburn possessed what's best for Cam Newton."

LOL.

Cam is what he is and in this case nobody can do anything about it. The best way to handle this is to just go along with it. Pretty soon you won't be able to defend it and you will be left with just one answer: fug the haters!

A 6-step guide for Panther fan rehabilitation under the Newton regime:

1. Just believe in what Cam says. That's all he asks.

2. If he says he's the real deal, you don't question it! NEVER question it!

3. Our duty as a fan base is now to feed his ego.

4. Cam will turn this into yards and wins. By transfer of energy it will also give Smith wings.

5. Keep feeding his ego until it blows up in a fantastic display of Cam-colored marshmallows

6. Duck.

I know it's weird we have never had one of these type of QBs so it's going to take awhile for the fan base to develop a mentality of elitists. Think Cowboy fans.

Oh and as far as Jerry not allowing Cam to have tattoos. Give it time, it's just week 3. By week 12 Richardson's going to be walking into the stadium with a pimp hat, pimp cane, and Cam Newton tattooed on his forearm ;)

PS: Mav....you better brace yourself if you didn't like that one. This is how we roll from here on out!

And this is the kind crap that infuriates me from the huddle. People like you making stupid posts about stuff that doesn't even matter. Nitpicking the littlest that about things that are supposed to be supporting and defending Cam. You are one annoying person and need to get a life. Seriously I better never see another thread like this. Don't do it.
