Obligatory "Do We Sign This Released Player?" Thread: Albert Haynesworth

Rodeo "it's okay that ya quit on us. You were just misused and misunderstood. Don't let anyone question your work ethic for quiting on us."

You seem to be misunderstanding my point. The man's coach says he worked hard. It's only misinformed outsiders who seem to share your opinion.

LMFAO I never saw Haynesworth give up in playoff game or when a team needed a win. The man was up front to the Redskins that he want to play UT not NT. Peppers was no different the last few years here only he was content on giving up on every game that was not on prime time. Even then he would give up in the playoffs and just disappear.

Change can have a big effect on players. Let the man pass threw wavers, then if he wants to come here let him... End of story.

So he only shows up in playoff games? Why bring him here then? No playoffs this year for us. And what does 2008 have to do with 2009, 2010, 2011. And I guess the folks that saw the tape of him quitting have no clue what are talking about. None of his teammates go to bat for him like Peppers' did. Not a single one. And quit comparing the 2, bc again Albert has been out of loop for 3 seasons. But i guess It's not Albert's fault that he hasnt done poo in almost 3 years.

That is complete bullpoo. He's a grown ass man

What's the worse case scenario? He comes here and Rivera puts a foot in his ass and then he gets cut. What is he going to do, make us lose games on the defense? Best case scenario is that he is a larger immovable force as a DT and actually fills his gap in the 4-3. He might actually be more motivated and resurrect his career. It's a win win in my book. Nothing to lose imho.

I'm just comparing two players that are very much the same. Yet you seem to ignore that peppers was the same type player and it worked out fo.r him. Also Beason called peppers out publicly and was punished for it so other players had no choice but to stick up for him

There are a lot of players in that do the same and nothing much is said about.

oh, so now you are telling me what happened in washington, didn't happen.

Okay, whatever dude.

Tip: it's pretty easy to be observant. Try it some time.

Bring him in. I don't know how the contract works with him being on waivers, but I think it's a low risk move. If he sucks, so what? DT been a weakness all season

That's my point. Is he better than 2 rookie DTs? Most likely. In 2008 Haynesworth had 8.5 sacks and 51 tackles in 14 games played. The man was a beast when he tried. I'm not saying he will ever be that player again. Perhaps he is no longer hungry enough, but "what if" coming to Carolina and being around these young players on the rise with this new head coach is what he needed to rejuvenate his career. We might just have a good DT for several years. If he can't be that player or won't be that player then cut his ass. He most likely won't be much of a cap hit anyway.

No point in bringing him in this season. Let our young ones develop. Whether they keep sucking or not. If Haynesworth is still a FA this offseason then I'd kick the tires. Evaluate him in training camp and make him earn a spot.

I have to admit though. A motivated Haynesworth with Johnson, Hardy, along with Edwards back would be a pretty nasty DL. One can dream.

No, they are not the same type of player. No matter how many times you repeat it, its simply not true.

    • Derrick Brown was one player I never called or even suggested was a bust . Dude was young and hadn't even hit his stride. It takes time to learn the position. The thing I appreciated about him is that he kept improving season after season. He got paid and keeps on going like the Energizer Bunny.
    • How many teams coddle their QB the way Bryce has been coddled? I have never seen any other team in the NFL EVER baby a QB the way that Bryce has been.  Bryce was named day 1 starter his first year. It was obvious he didnt deserve it. He wasnt ready as evidenced by the worst rookie year in NFL history.  So let's move to year 2. He's named starter again with no competition in TC and is benched 2 games later. We have the ghost of a backup in Dalton who is so bad he can only beat Vegas and let's remember, the only reason he lost his starting job was a car accident, not because Bryce actually beat him out in practice.  And year 3. We sign Dalton again, who already proved he couldn't be depended on to put an even remotely passable performance on the field, and bring back Jack Plummer, who was even worse than last year. It was obvious he was nothing more than a pretend body in an attempt to create an illusion of some type of attempt to find a backup.  Then we start again with garbage play again and Bryce gets benched with a phantom injury, and the ghost of the ghost of Dalton breaks his thumb on the first drive and craps the field all over again. If we had actually made an attempt to find a legitimate QB2, it's possible Bryce doesn't step on the field again. Bryce is not agood QB and if we had any other mediocre QB, our record would be the same or better.  Bryce is not entrenched. He's been placed, protected and sheltered from ever having to face a  real QB competition in TC. Richardson and Levis both were ass and both were benched and eventually replaced.  Do I expect Baker to face competition in camp? Sure. I expect Tampa to find the best QB2 they can at price that fits their cap and resources and system and get him up to speed. If he's better than Baker, and if he's better by a significant margin, that's best for the team. The ultimate goal is a Super Bowl. Bellichek was constantly getting QB2s with the GOAT as his starter. He knew the value and that was realized when Cassell led them to an 11-5 record as a backup.  You and I may think differently than the people that matter but I will say it again. If you're afraid to bring in a capable backup, especially after the debacle of last year. The starting role wasn't earned, it was given, and that's loser mentality.
    • I would have done the same thing.  LSU is a much better job than Ole Miss.  Plus the enormous contract and every advantage a college team can offer in terms of recruiting and facilities and tradition etc
