SI's Jim Trotter ranks Cam the 9th best QB in the league:

9. Cam Newton, Panthers: The rookie No. 1 pick continues to improve. Instead of forcing passes, as he did on occasion earlier in the year, Newton is taking advantage of his running skills, leading all players with 13 rushing touchdowns, including six in the last three games. As a passer, he has been interception-free in four of his last six outings and picked off only once in another. His play has helped lift the Panthers to two straight wins.

depends how you want to rank QBs. 2011 in terms of production....or just ranking QBs in a more general view.

Phillip Rivers for example....would rank drastically different pending how you wish to rank QBs. Cam would rank differently in both as well.

the fact that he has The Golden Calf of Bristol at #5 kills ALL POSSIBLE credibility of this list.

The Golden Calf of Bristol made plays with his legs at the end of the games, but only his defense and running game was responsible for having the team there at the end with a chance

They were in every game (except the Vikings game) IN SPITE of The Golden Calf of Bristol....not because of him.

The Golden Calf of Bristol has virtually ZERO passing ability and is a joke of a QB.

He does have an IT factor that comes out at the end of games. However, looking like total poo for 57 minutes and then leading one drive (with his legs) does NOT constitute a Top 5 QB in the NFL.

How else could you rate QB's? I can only think of production (efficiency with TD:INT and rushing) vs. W/L.

Based on their logic that The Golden Calf of Bristol can be a great QB (even though his status SUCK) just because his team wins.....I guess we should rank Starks from Green Bay the best RB in the league. He is the starting RB on an undefeated team....and ranking a players ability at a position is ONLY made by W/L of his team.

What a joke.

    • If Henderson just got a concussion and will possibly/probably now miss next week as well, gotta think missing 2 games of stats at this point of the year might knock him out as he was only just entering the discussion the last few weeks anyways.  Same goes for Judkins going down today too, and Dart's god awful game likely removes him from the conversation as well. It will be interesting to see how the voters compare T-Mac and Egbuka if they end up with stats that are nearly identical. Egbuka burst onto the scene and put up the bulk of his stats early in the year when Baker was playing like the MVP front runner.  While T-Mac was just more consistent throughout the course of the full season (ex. Egbuka has 8 games of 42 yards or less, T-Mac has 4 of them, while T-Mac still scored 3 TDs in those 4 games, where Egbuka only scored 1 TD in his 8). It would be a shame if they put too much weight on the final game of the season if that ends up being the division decider, as I think T-Mac has had the better SEASON while Egbuka had a better peak output during that first month or so but way cooled off since. Maybe Warren goes off in the last 3 games (they still play tomorrow), but it does seem to be down to T-Mac and Egbuka right now.
    • Mitchell Evan’s put a block on someone that he drove them all the way out of bounds and to the bench. He absolutely destroyed the guy. He’s gonna be a beast for us if he keeps that up.
    • Yall... stop taking a sample size and projecting a role player into a permanent starter cuz he had a decent year after what, 5? Come on
