David Gettis set to participate in OTA's

Recommended Posts

Panthers WR David Gettis (ACL surgery) plans to participate in OTAs this spring.

Gettis recently began running and insists "everything's going according to schedule." Barring a setback, the 2010 starter should be ready to compete with Brandon LaFell for the second receiver job opposite Steve Smith.

Good for David Gettis, it will be nice to have him back next year.

Is anyone else feeling as good as I do about how our receivers are shaping up? I mean there's nothing concrete as of yet, but with the flashes of potential both Gettis and LaFell have shown, I can't help but have the notion that our receiving corp is going to surprise some folks next year.

Can't wait. I just hope he isn't rushed into anything. If his rookie year is any indication of how good he'll be, we are in for a good year. Plus, he'll have an actual QB throwing to him. Just imagining Smitty and Gettis on the outside with LaFell in the slot.

Smith started to fall off the second half of the season. Maybe it was people figuring out Cam, or maybe it was the passing offense slowing down, but he fell off. It will be good to have Gettis and LaFell out there to help Smith out.

In the final 8 games:

33 catches

476 yards

3 tds

Basically he averages out 4 catches, 60 yards, and a td once every 2-3 games.

First 8 games:

46 catches

918 yards

4 tds

Elite at the beginning of the season, average at the end. What was the difference? 5 of the first 8 games over 100 yards, only 1 in the last 8 against the Falcons. He likely would have had another 100 yarder at the beginning of it wasn't a tropical storm against the Jaguars.

If Gettis isn't close to form and LaFell doesn't step up it might be cause for concern.
