What's worth trading up for at 8/9?

?

A lot of trade discussion around these parts and I'm wondering what would actually make someone behind us want to trade up.

Possibilities:

Richardson falls...which team needs a RB the most?

Floyd or Alshon have ridiculously good combines making them more sought after. I could see the Titans & Browns as good partners. A lot of guys we've been discussing may be available around 20 when all is said and done.

I've seen Tannehill being propped up *cough*Walterfootball and just don't see a team reaching for a QB like last year. That's wishful thinking on some mocker's parts. I think if anything, the Skins are gonna be the team to trade up to the #2 spot for RG3.

Any other guys that may emerge will probably be a need for us and I'd like to see us get since we're looking at a plethora of positions...WLB, DT, FS, CB, & OT.

What looks interesting?

Seattle trading up for Tannehill.

Cardinals/Eagles moving up for falling OL or WR.

Bengals making a move for a starting OT or OG.

I think after last year teams are going to be MORE willing to trade up for a QB. A lot of teams are probably wishing they had traded back into the 1st to get Dalton before Cincinnati got him. And people are probably thinking that the Ponder selection wasn't as big of a bust as they thought it was going to be. He was much more solid than I thought he was going to be. Even Locker wasn't as bad as expected. Only Gabbert was a disappointment.

Another name being brought up for possible mid first round consideration is Brock Orweiller (or something like that) from Arizona St. Not everyone is hyping him, but I've seen him mentioned a few times as a surprise sleeper to find his way into the 1st. He's like 6'8 and supposedly has a strong and pretty accurate arm and surprisingly mobile for a guy his size (doesn't have the statue label that Mallett had).

That's a good argument for why team's may want a QB. rep

Like you said, it looks like Locker and Ponder weren't the out-of-place picks as it seemed during last years draft which may get teams thinking QB early...but we're only talking Washington, Cleveland, & Seattle imo. The Dolphins will probably stick with Moore and the Chiefs will probably give Cassel one more year...but those teams are still maybes for QB.

If the Browns don't ****** RG3 with their first pick, I could see them trading up to get ahead of Seattle, KC, & Miami. We're in a good spot for that. Pick 22 would be right around Jenkins, Floyd, Dennard, Poe, Barron, etc.

A trade this year will more likely occur if a team wants a specific player and I don't see many non-QBs beyond pick 5 that will garner that attention over the rest. Maybe like I said Richardson & Jeffery but most other guys that would fit that bill are needs.

I'm therefore completely in support of a trade if a team comes to us but not us on the offering side of the table.

You have to look at it on about 3 levels.

First, the coin flip will determine a lot. For instance, if we get the 8 pick, right in front of Miami, who needs a RT and 3-4 OLB, then you look to see if there could be a great one fall to us like Rieff. If the Panthers don't take him (which they should consider), then you look at others who desparately need one like the Cards. Lots of things have to fall in place

like some have said, it's a QB league. dont be surprised if the 3rd QB gets pushed up people boards and teams start calling to make a move. i think thats why FO's go throught so many different situations in case things like that happen. if you dont have a guy at the QB spot, you go get him at any cost.

I've read Miami is switching to a 4-3. Which means they probably need to draft guys for that more than anything (most notably, a true 4-3 DE). I think Miami takes Coples if he's there, if not THEY may try to trade back to get better value out of Ingram or Mercilus or someone like that.

    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
    • Best part is if we draft him, we can also use him as our fourth and one QB sneaker
