FLETCHER COX

6'4 295 DT/DE Miss St.

14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He also had 56 tackles, two blocked kicks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery that he returned for 52 yards...in the SEC. His strengths are in his quickness off the ball, overall power, special teams d-line. The weaknesses: he struggles once he's double teamed, but that's not a huge negative for me. The one's of more concern are that he can get a little out of control/off balance because he tries to be overly aggressive.

One of the really nice things to point out is that he took care of business quite well against Bama' this year and is probably one of the most overall consistent defensive players in the draft. He also is said to be a very high character type who was a player's player for Miss St.

The one thing is that he may be better suited for a 3-4...he plays the 5 technique but would be able to go 3-tech in our 4-3 sets. He can move to the ends also because of his quickness and physicality. He can definitely fill gaps up against the run and his athleticism should translate well into the NFL.

I guarantee that our staff is giving Cox a hard look.

I like Cox a lot and think he is the second best DT in the draft behind Still. He's the same age as Brockers and put up some gaudy stats as "the man" on that defensive line, with considerable less talent around him.

He one of the the players I am anxious to see at the combine. I'd like to see if he's actually as big as he's being listed. If he can come in at 6'4, 6'3 and 300 +, I could see us really take a look at him. Right now he probably projects as more of a 3-4 DE.

I only watched that video 2 posts up, WF game. He looks solid, but sluggish as hell off the snap and not nearly as active or violent as Brockers. He certainly can be a good player, saw good effort on his part. If we don't get Brockers I wouldn't mind him in the 2nd, but not the first. Looks more like a 3-4 DE though.

I am thinking that two picks could be in order for us on the DLine this draft.

I like Brockers in a trade down say at 12 or 13, picking up a third.

then, come back with someone like Akiem Hicks in the 5th or so. I would love to develop a rotation on our DLine which would always be fresh and wreak havoc similar to NY Giants.

Believe it or not I actually like Cox. He's big and strong, and a great penetrator

Hawt

but on a serious note I'm starting to think its gonna be Oline and Dline with the first picks. Oline would probably be first seeing as there are some good D lineman that will probably be there in the 2nd.

Gah it feels good to have both 1st and 2nd round picks.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
