How bad can Goodell punish Saints?

Being as it's the Aints and how much Goodell loves them and features Breesus and Co every chance they get.

A 6th round pick and simply cash would not surprise me.

Justice is not served equally, be it in the NFL or certainly in the NCAA when you look at USC versus the poo going on the last couple years.

If this was the Raiders................

Lol i'm thinking most Panther fans are hoping they get to play the Saints with key members of their staff and players suspended.....How weak is that?

The whole being honorable and wishing everyone the best is fine and dandy, but the reason they wouldn't have everyone there is because they violated that code in the first place. If being punished is caused by them putting out bounties and violating the rules, then being shorthanded is their just rewards. Don't see how wishing they get punished is weak at all. That kind of logic would be expected by a Saint's fan or troll. Take your pick.

Actually Goodell and most of the league feel the Saints are snobs and feels the Saints organization believes they can do whatever they want. So you might not be 100% correct here.

Draft Picks (I'm hoping at least 2 1sts) would be the worst punishment. And then Cap Penalties. I think fines are useless because they only effect individuals it does nothing to prevent teams from hiring sleezeballs like Williams.

I'm going with:

1) Saints lose this year's 2nd and next year's 1st.

2) Williams gets a 6 game suspension and $500,000 fine.

3) $250,000 fine for Payton, max fine for Benson/Saints/Mickey Loomis (not sure the amount)

4) At least a 2 game suspension for Vilma (for being mentioned for putting up $10,000) and maybe additional player suspensions depending on how detailed the payouts were recorded.

5) Fines for the 22-27 players mentioned dependent on involvement.

6) Mike Ornstein banned from NFL events and facilities with possible legal action.

I suspect Goodell will do what he considers "making an example of them".

Whether his idea of what constitutes 'an example' meshes with ours is a big question.

Schefter keeps saying "worst penalty ever" but who knows what that actually means?

It's all just speculation right now.

I hope you're right, but I have my doubts.

I could see future draft picks taken etc.

Super Bowl XLVII is going to be in New Orleans, I just hope the league doesn't want to sweep this under the carpet as much as possible and apply most of the penalties next year in draft picks.
