Davis deal done?

yeah, in claiming to know what's hamstringing the panthers, senn's agent is really saying the opposite: he doesn't have a clue what's going on in carolina's front office. the davis deal was done last year with full knowledge of his injury. to think that they wouldn't know how to restructure it when that was a feature of the contract all along is pretty short-sighted.

There is clearly some kind of sticking point in the negations. There would be no benefit to waiting until the last minute to do so considering how it affects how they are dealing with other of their own.

in my opinion it (no news about restructuring, davis contract "limbo") is just hurney wanting to hold his cards until the last possible second, in case some other team is sloppy and gives him an advantage somehow. not saying it's a brilliant strategy, but i do think that's the way he does things.

Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, whose deal is expected to be reworked, was in Baltimore on Monday for events connected to tonight’s Ed Block Courage Awards. The fact Davis is out of town could be a sign he and the Panthers have already come to an agreement.

The Davis deal was dumb because he had a year left on his contract and we had full knowledge of his injury history--and we gave him guaranteed money. Double Dumb.

The Panthers chose not to exercise an $8 million option bonus that was due later this week. The bonus was put in as a safeguard when Davis signed a new contract last summer. He suffered his third injury early last season.

Davis’ cap figure for 2012 is now a comfortable $2.1 million. In addition to not getting the bonus, Davis took a cut in base salary from $2.25 million to $700,000 for this season.

But Davis can recoup some of the money later in the contract that runs through 2015. He has a $500,000 option bonus in 2013 and a $2.5 million second option in 2014. His new base salaries rise steadily each season. If he’s still with the team in 2015, his base salary will be $7.25 million.

Person was just on WFNZ and said he thinks the Davis deal is done b/c TD has been in Baltimore the past 2 days receiving an award and that there was no way either parties would have left if a contract wasn't resolved.

I just think the panthers dont want Senn back.
