Will The Ol Hold Our Offense Back?

Unless we make some upgrades I am afraid our OL will be subpar. We just invested additional money in a running game we have a small fortune invested in already. We will also need to protect the passer who is the face of our franchise.

When I look at the OL we have a RT that has been good when on the field but injured 80% of his career. We have a good LT and everyone else is average to below average.Unlike some I was not overly impressed with the latest signing. My guess is our 1st and 2nd rd picks will be defense.

Someone tell me I am just having a delusional moment but I have always felt you build your offense and defense beginning with the line.

You are correct to be concerned.

Gross is getting long in the tooth, but if healthy, will be okay.

Both guard spots are of huge concern

Kalil will be good again, Pollak is insurance for Bernadeau being the C backup

Otah, who knows.

I have mentioned before that we have spent money on RB's but might be a bumpy road if there are no holes for them to run.

If you look at when Dwil and jstew had break out years we had Vincent at rg and Otah was healthy. When a rt has ongoing knee problems its usually does not get better

did it last year?

i can't imagine it being worse than last year. i fully expect it to be better, actually.

the draft hasn't happened and free agency has really just begun and there are going to be a few more waves of FA activity.

the FO and coaching staff knows that the OL needs help and i seriously doubt we are going to see nothing done.

they'll bring in a good bit of competition for starting and depth positions throughout the offseason via FA and the draft and the line will have not just a full offseason under its belt, but for most of it a full season under their belts as well. it took a lot of time for the Oline to catch on to the blocking scheme last year. they were having just as much trouble as the defense was with learning the schemes and protections and staying healthy as the defense.was in learning and understanding the new scheme and staying healthy.

it's something that needs to be addressed, but i'm confident will be.

A couple of things. I think thhat this beiing a contract year, Otah will suck it up and play fine. Hee knows if he doesn't play this year he wwill never get that big payday and will have a hard time going ellsewhere. If he does play and lets be honest, he hurt his meniscus which was surgically repaired and should be 100%, then we really have 3 very good players already plugged in. Bell and Hangman should be able to fill in at guard as they were starters last year. Pollak comes after starting 40 games for Indy. Then you have Williams who the FO like and Ziemba who should be depth.

I think the O line will be signifiicantly better than last year just with Otah back and Bell and Williams as backups. Yeah I know Otah is a question mark but it is time forr him to step up or step aside,

I am hoping our new fb should help in blocking but have little faith that Otah can get healthy enough to play a whole season. If Gross goes down I think we will have real problems. To me a great running game helps the defense as well.Last year was good but not to the level it has been.

    • I hope not. 3rd-5th round QB's are historically awful. Most of the time that team is just drafting another QB in the first the following year. Look at the Saints, if they continue to suck this year they are just taking a QB. And if they do they just threw away a 2nd round pick that they just drafted. We did the same poo with Clausen, Greer, Pike, that guy we drafted a few years ago who is so irrelevant I forgot his name...  Just take a 1st round QB if Bryce isn't the answer and be prepared to live with it
    • This reminds me on Madden where you create an alternate uniform and the pre-recorded voice overs talk about how hideous your uniform looks. 🤣
    • There are people on this forum that just want to see a lot of passing yards....number go up. That's all it is, really. They are thirsting for a 350-400 yard game. The idea that Jameis Winston is going to come in and play like a star and lead us to wins is ludacris. He's the 3rd fuging string for a 2-5 team and has played horrible for years now. Sure, passing numbers will go up but you'll also get a lot of dumb plays, pick 6's, and incompletions en route to a frustrating bad offensive performance, just in a different way. I think these people are yearning for another Delhomme situation, and the odds of that happening are very very slim. It's way more likely Howell or Jameis comes in and looks like Jack Plummer or Andy Dalton did in the preseason. There just isn't that much good quarterbacking in this league right now. And if we draft another QB in the first round, there is a good chance they bust. It's not a guaranteed carrot. The reality is, as mediocre as Bryce has been, the risk of bringing someone else in in-season and releasing Bryce becuase you aren't happy with his current performance is staggeringly high. Don't want to re-up his contract and search for a solution in the offseason? Sure, I'm on board. Bryce hasn't been good enough to warrant a second contract. But It is very. very unlikely that bringing someone else in midseason is going to give this team more wins.
