Jaguars Claim Dolphins Will Take Tannehill

It’s unclear which team wants to trade down more: the Vikings at No. 3 or the Jaguars at No. 7.

For now, we’ll call it a tie.

Minnesota is trying its damnedest to drum up a market for the first pick after the top two picks, which barring the intervention of a bus, a lightning bolt, and/or a Biblical plague will beAndrew Luck and Robert Griffin III. The Jaguars, who widely are believed to be hoping to trade down from the seventh spot, are now openly selling the idea that the Dolphins will take quarterback Ryan Tannehill with the eighth pick in the draft.

Appearing on 930AM with Pete Prisco (via Tania Ganguli of the Florida Times-Union), Jaguars director of player personnel Terry McDonough said that “people know Miami’s going to take [Tannehill," and that "if a team wants a quarterbackthey're going to have to come in front of Miami."

And who's directly in front of Miami? The Jaguars.

That dynamic could help explain the Dolphins' aggressive and repeated denials of the reports that owner Stephen Ross wants Tannehill. If the Dolphins don't knock that one down, they're bolstering the notion that they'd take Tannehill -- and they're encouraging a team like the Seahawks at No. 12 to trade up five spots.

Conversely, if the Dolphins don't want Tannehill, they have every reason to create the impression that they do. If, after all, someone leapfrogs Miami to take a player the Dolphins don't want, it'll push someone the Dolphins actually want one spot farther down the board.

So if they want him, they should create the impression they don't. If they don't want him, they should create the impression they do.

Unless they're operating on a higher level of misdirection, which would entail creating the impression they don't want him and hoping that someone will interpret that to mean they do want him, when in reality they don't want him.

Jaguars want to trade down so bad, lol.

Tannehill is Blaine Gabbet 2.0 but worse. Decent career but hyped up by experts only to fail later.

I think he will be better than Gabbert but that isn't saying much. Gabbert and Clausen play scared....you can't fix that

    • Sure.    ignore that he said this roster wasn’t good in 2023 to 2024 but keep up the effort
    • While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
