Runner Carries?

  1. 1. How many carries a game should Cam get? (Designed and scrambles)

    • He shouldn't be running it at all. He might get injured.

Props to xerxes for having this idea in the other thread.

For reference:

Cam ran it 126 times last season for 706 yards, a 5.6 YPC while running it 7.9 times per game.

Deangelo ran it 155 times last season for 836 yards, a 5.4 YPC while running it 9.7 times per game.

J. Stew ran it 142 times last season for 761 yards, a 5.4 YPC while running it 8.9 times per game.

Tolbert ran it 121 times last season for the Chargers for 490 yards, a 4.0 YPC while running it 7.6 times per game.

It'd really be in our best interest to take that next step this season from being a run oriented team to becoming a modern NFL offense.

30 carries a game between runners is just stupid.

It should change game to game. After all we need to gameplan for each opponent and take what they give us. Foxball was about running consistently regardless of how effective it was. Chud on the other hand seem pretty adept at changing to suit what works for our players and takes advantage of the opponent's weaknesses. Putting an average number of carries on this offense is putting it in a box which could limit it's potential.

A lot of deffenses are geared at stopping the pass. A strong run game will tourch the nickel and dime....that being said, I think we will be balanced. One thing we ran toward the end of the season was two RB sets, with the addition of Tolbert we can run those sets more often because we'll have fresh legs all game. The D has to worry about three runners and it still could be a pass.

Tolbert will spell dwill and stew and also be used to protect Cam blocking and going out for short dump offs. I am thinking we will be using a lot of two back sets in the Shotgun next year and that is why Tolbert was brought in. I think we run mostly from this type of formation. It will really keep the defense on their toes.

Why?

I would like to see fewer designed runs in the red zone for our QB (...NOT scrambles, if he sees an opening he should take it) but I don't understand why you think this. If we are moving the ball and scoring, I don't see why overall number of carries really matters.

And as someone else pointed out, when it comes to backs, touches >>> carries as far as a metric of involvement.

We were 14th in the NFL with 28 carries per game. For the most part, the better teams in the NFL averaged between 25 and 32 carries per game.

    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
    • 1.) LaMelo 2.) Kon 3.} Miller 4.. Giannis 5.) Moose   1.) Coby 2.) ? 3.) Sion 4.) Miles Bridges 5.) Kalk That squad would win multiple chips.
