And yes it is ok for Ed Reed to miss tackles because he gets INTs.

Godfrey doesn't. And he misses tackles

Reed also doesn't just get INTs. He shuts down parts of the field in the pass game. Tom Brady doesn't even like to test out Ed's territory...and Brady is one of the top 3 or so ever play QB.

Truthfully, Mr TD should write Ed Reed a letter and apologize for insulting him in this manner.

Based on what? You think Hurney woke up the day before and decided to extend all those players? They work on those with agents, they don't happen overnight.

Hurney is the GM, those mass extensions were a Panther moves.....players Rivera was going to get. First year HC doesn't have that pull to dictate what a GM will do with "his guys" that early on.

stop.

Just stop.

Godfrey had never played a NFL snap under Rivera. That was a Hurney move.....all those fat deals where Hurney moves trying to impress after the clusterphuck they created keeping Fox yet starting a rebuild with him still in house.

first year HC can't pick up a phone and call a GM...yeah, I know you said you were already I talks with this Godfrey kids agent working on his extension.....but let's not do that I watched some tape.

Cool

you sir, are an idiot.

As often as you prove it on a daily basis, I'm sure you'll continue to do so.

Again, suggesting the contracts Marty gave out after the 2010 season where Rivera inspired moves and not Hurney/Panther moves.....is just baseless.

Call me an idiot if it makes you feel better....

Those deals where being worked on while they were still looking for a new staff.

There are way too many damning and condemning remarks about our secondary right now.

I wonder if all of the opinions based primarily on last season's performance of the secondary were removed if the frequency of these bashings would diminish. My best guess is that they would diminish and do so at an incredible rate.

That said, I believe that any remarks or evaluations that are based primarily or solely on last season are ridiculous. There are better cover guys in the league for sure and any of us can probably assemble a fantasy DB roster but what does that help. The irrefutable evidence is twofold:

We had no pass-rush and no contain: Injuries, lack of ability, and a new staff limited this.

Without pass-rush or contain DB's struggle considerably: Yes a few supermen could have done better but overall even a fantasy DB roster struggles mightily last season for the Panthers.

Defensive schemes are learned and executed. They are automatic. They are drilled and drilled and drilled ad nauseum so that the results are a derivative of recognition and execution. The schemes are designed as such that they eliminate opportunities that certain called offensive sets are designed to exploit. Like Chess or any other strategic contest, a scheme is designed to make 11 players work together doing a single job so that as a whole they remove the "majority" of the threat.

If for any reason a person or person does not or can not focus singularly and confidently on executing their individual assignment the scheme will inevitably break down. If for any reason a player or players, particularly the last line of defense has a reason or reasons to not trust that the other cogs in the wheel are not or can not perform their individually assigned task the scheme will break down.

As soon as a DB is in a position where they have to think, second-guess, gamble, or react (as opposed to respond) they will look bad or fail completely.

All the "can't cover", "got burned" comments from last year should not fall squarely on the shoulders of the corners and safeties. The safeties and corners were asked repeatedly to fill in for linebackers who could not tackle and ends that could not maintain containment. They don't deserve all the blame. If you are so dead set against a certain DB or a handful of them right now, think about why. If last season's debacle in the secondary dominates your reasoning then you need to lighten up. Just like everything else in life, the last person to touch something usually gets the blame but in a great majority of cases the initial problem or fault lies with a person or persons who missed the boat long before the last person ever got involved.

I would tend to agree that those did not have the level of Rivera input that he would have now or in the future.

If it makes me an idiot to think that then so the fuuck be it. I'm sorry to disagree with someone on a message board and I certainly will not stop.

answer the question: Would the panthers secondary THIS SEASON be better with or without Godfrey?

The lack of answers tells ya everything you need to know!

the Panthers secondary would be better with average S and average #2 CB play. We don't have average starters....our current backups aren't average. maybe the Ravens kid can be that..I'd think he would an improvement over EITHER S we started last year

Your poll question....and aren't you losing 2-1 in it? LOL. I guess in your world that is another win though
