Panthers acquire special teams 'ace' Colin Jones from 49ers

Roto says the thought about moving him to WR a whole back.

In other words, he won't be making any contributions defensively. It's sad that we'll make all these moves for ST "aces" just to cover for Brian Murphy's deficiency as a coach.

or maybe brian murphy asked for specific personnel moves to cover for talent deficiency on the field. why make the most negative, worst possible assumptions without anything to back it up?

i mean seriously, if we didn't go and get this guy, posters like Growl would be all like "this team is so complacent, god forbid we actually go make some roster moves to improve our team, grumble grumble snarf"

now that we make a move, it's "that damn front office conspiracy, making moves to get new guys on the team just to cover for a deficiency garble snarf"

get the fug outta here with that noise

here's some actual content that isn't idiotic bitching and baseless speculation

Colin Jones is an American Football safety who is currently a member of the San Francisco 49ers. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.[1] He played college football at TCU. He went to high school in Bridgeport, Texas and graduated in 2006.

backup safety, not much to go on here, but it fills two holes potentially.

Youre right, despite the large influx of dollars an talent into special teams this offseason, along with an additional year implementing the system and an additional assistant, we have absolutely no reason to believe Brian Murphy isn't a good coach.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
