Its tricky to get in as a wideout. Yards alone aren't enough or else Chris Carter would have been in by now. I would love to see Smitty in the hall but its doubtful. We're just going to have to honor the poo out of him when he retires as a Panther.

he'd have to pull a jerry rice and be productive well into his late 30s. like averaging 800-1000 yards/season between now and retirement to pull ahead of owens and bruce.

i mean if he could be supplanted by two other receivers and line up in the slot and just catch curl routes and slants all day who knows.

I love Smitty, but I just don't really see him getting in. He's a good receiver, but an all-time great? I don't know about that.

He is one of the best WR's to ever play based on his sheer ability, at least IMO. He carried the passing game on his back for a number of years. If he had Cam as his QB from the start of his career, I don't think this would be a discussion right now. The injury year in '04 and the debacle in '10 hurt his status. He needs to play for 3-4 more years and put up big numbers in each to even have a sniff at the HOF.
