#2. Take a week at most to conduct interviews, make a decision, agree in principle, and let the new GM start working on getting us a coach. They can go ahead and do any interviews with people from teams not in the playoffs (aka the Giants likely...) and if Ross or the other guy from the Giants really are the frontrunners it could streamline the process even more. Hopefully the top coaching candidates aren't snagged up in the first week. We could even hire a coach before we hire a GM. As someone in another thread pointed out, Harbaugh was hired 3 weeks before the 49ers hired their GM.

i dont see the process dragging out. i don't think rivera gets canned monday, but i see the new GM coming in within a week, and he'll make his decision pretty rapidly.

unless the giants make the playoffs, of course. that complicates things.

Any GM worth having will have multiple opportunities. It will take more than a week for interviews and decisions I think. Unless thee have been some back room behind the scenes talks already (hopefully)

What if the best GM candidate is part of a playoff franchise? Wait a few weeks maybe a month?

that, of course, is where it gets complicated. and that's why it doesn't make sense to expect rivera to be gone first thing monday morning (unless secretly JR has been in contact with certain guys who've explicitly stated they don't want rivera to return.)

if the giants don't make the playoffs i'd be very surprised if we didn't interview and subsequently hire ross or gettleman within the week.

Can we get a 4th option? B/c I could stand to have a GM who has more cap experience than player experience then give a good coach a deal where they get partial player control but not autonomy.

Depending on who the coach we target is (if we fire Rivera) that might be the best option.

    • Ohio State no. 8 won it all last year.  No. 6 Penn State and no. 7 Notre Dame advanced to the semi-final. This year no. 7 Ole Miss is going to win it all.
    • agreed.  Lack of games/opportunity makes him a non-factor in OROTY talk.  He is just now getting the stage where there is legit film on him.  Takes awhile to really see how guys react to all the different scenarios and to find the real weak spots on a QB's play in an O.
    • Oh boy how the tables have turned...the passion and extent at which you defend Shough would make even the staunchest Bryce fanboys blush.  The bold part is especially straight from their playbook.  Even if someone here were to withhold giving Shough props, it's pretty understandable as a Panthers fan.  What's quite odd is becoming the biggest stan of our most hated rival's starting QB.  I don't think even Saints fans drool over him this hard. For the record I think this talk about "stans" and "fanboys" is cringe AF and I'm admittedly being rather hyperbolic because this is exactly the kind of discourse and language you personally love to engage in and it's fun to play in the mud from time to time.  There is absolutely no world where you do not meet your own criteria of a "Super Stan" for Shough with how loosely you apply that label to people for Bryce in here.  You're like the Final Boss of Super Stans.
