Hurney, the worst contract negotiator of all time? Panthers in worse cap shape in 2014

New Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman inherited some significant issues as well, with his team about $19 million over the cap; Carolina projects even worse against the 2014 cap, and a year from now also serves as the first time Cam Newton can renegotiate his bargain rookie deal, which means tough decisions ahead for the Panthers. Corner Chris Gamble makes nearly $8 million, and offensive lineman Jordan Gross makes nearly $9 million -- expect restructurings if not at a cut there. It's hard to imagine DeAngelo Williams making another $5 million there given all of the running backs the Panthers are paying and his declining output, while in 2014 defensive end Charles Johnson and safety Charles Godfrey will account for nearly $15 million in base salary combined.

    • I know teams have been selling out to stop the run, but Ricos kind of fallen off a cliff.. not sure if hes hurt or just worn down but even when theres a hole he doesnt look anything like he did those few weeks prior.
    • nah, that's basically saying people can't call a spade a spade.  Which is crazy.  89 is not a good dude.  He might have done a couple good things but it will never erase what he has proven to be in front of the world.  I tell my kid all the time not to view celebrity athletes as anything but people that play a sport well.  Lot of garbage humans play on Sunday.   And you have no clue who the good guys actually are.  PR in today's world is also powerful.  There was a window when Deshawn Watson checked every good guy box that could ever existed from the public's perspective.
    • Some folks say it's because teams are playing more shell defenses preventing more longer passes.  The analytics folks would rather you pass for 7 years every down.  As you state, the crop of QBs is mixed as far as quality. I think when you put it all together, it's a recipe for less passing yards.
