Louis Murphy

So I know the issues he's had with drops, but it seemed he started to be more reliable once the season wore on. As I was thinking about who we should draft and coveting one of those receivers who has speed to burn, I so happened to look up Murphy's time and it looks like he ran a 4.32. So he's got the speed and the size to be an elite receiver, he knows our playbook, and he's Cam's best friend on the team. I'm starting to change my mind about a 1st or 2nd round receiver because I really think Louis might just have a breakout year. I know this will probably be an unpopular opinion, but what do you think?

If we could count on him to step up this year, we could focus on line and secondary and then take a slot guy in later rounds.

He's a good fourth receiver, and a fine 3rd receiver. I'd be fine with a receiver to replace Smith at some point, but this draft isn't exactly flush with them. Unless the top, or maybe second guy, drops to us, it would be foolish to take a WR in a draft so loaded at other positions we need. if one of the top 3 tackles, offensively or defensively is there, it just makes more sense to go there right now. Between Smith, Lafell, Olsen, and hopefully Murphy on a cheap contract, we don't really need another big money or high pick receiver. Though it would be nice.

I'm all for surrounding our young quarterback with talent. But I would want offensive line talent more at this point actually.

Murphy is a proven playmaker in the NFL. Regarding the drops, I think he's adjusting to Cam more than anything. Not many QBs in the league zip the ball like him and if you don't have strong but soft hands, you're gonna have a hard time holding on to the ball.

This is one of the reasons I like Barnidge so much. I know he hasn't been very productive, but I attribute that to his lack of opportunities more than anything. If the ball is anywhere near him, he goes and gets it - including those lasers from Killa Cam.

we absolutely should not and will not go into next season with just the guys we had on the WR corps last year. we will either be picking up one in the first couple rounds or a good one in FA or via trade (for a draft pick).

murphy can't/shouldn't/won't be relied upon to step up into a WR1 or 2 role next year or any time in the future. they need to act like last year is as good as it's going to get with him.

We have enough receivers for the moment, but resigning Murphy would not at all be a bad idea. Knowing the playbook, chemistry and all make him a much better option than a late rounder. Plus, Gettis, Pilares and others coming back will make it croweded at the position. We have invested picks in the postition already, let's see what we have there.

    • He had a turnover on all three goals he was on the ice for. Plus he had that god awful delay of game penalty. Like legit his GS actually shows he was the cause of the loss and he was only on the ice for 12 minutes. You remove him from that game and the Canes win or at worst go to OT.  Let's put this in perspective, in 12 minutes he directly led to 3 goals against. In the 48 minutes without him on the ice it was an even-steven 2-2 game and that's disregarding that god awful delay of game penalty that led to goal number 4 of the 5 given up.      I don't see how anyone could say that he didn't directly lead to the loss.
    • reality is the piling on of Frank Reich is just the standard huddle angle we take of putting all blame on someone after the fact.   as I was an OG Frank hater before it was cool to be......now the swing goes too far the other way and people will claim me is as a Frank defender.  Frank Reich was the definition of a .500 middle of the road NFL coach.  He technically was a winning coach and above .500 coming here but he is and was NFL average.  we were the biggest joke in a decade.....because they paired Frank Reich (a dude who was going to do what he does in the NFL) with a dude who couldn't do NFL basics and Frank was forced to play him.  That's not Frank being a loser.  That a bad org around Frank.
    • Toronto is less physical than us, and they took them to 7  I really wish they would have won, because we match up better with them, but we have to deal with what we got  What worries me is Svech trying to take out Bob, that is desperation, that's what you do when you feel like there is no legit options left, it's what I feared, Bob is still in our core groups head, and they are over thinking, over passing Hopefully that changes tonight
